Selling a wedding dress

I have to sell one of my wedding dress, however there is a problem with doing it. The wedding boutique that I bought the dress from took the dress in without my authorization then didnt let me try the dress on when I came to get it, and now they are closed (for obvious reasons). However, due to being in a small town and having to work with so many business owners for work, my mom tells me I should just try to sell the dress instead of taking her to court to get my money back. My only problem is how do I list the dress? Do I just take pictures of it, and the measurments of what the dress was sized down to? At this point, if I can even get 1/3 of my money back for it, I guess I will be lucky. Any help you can give me would be great. TIA

  • I would call up a lawyer first.  You probably have a case against them, and you don't want to sell the dress if you need it for evidence. That said, if you're set on trying to sell it, I'd list the original measurements as well as what it was taken in to.  Most dresses can only be taken in so far, so someone buying it would want to know how much room they have to work with.  And always include pictures, I never look at any online listing that doesn't include lots of pictures or makes me e-mail for them.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I suggest using preownedweddingdresses.com. I bought my veil from there and had a great experience. Posting a link here is obviously not a bad idea. You should post the following: Pictures of the dress from the front and the back. Pictures of you in it are fine. You may wish to fuzz out or cut off your face. Pictures of the dress from the manufacturer's website will also work. You should also post the size of the dress, obviously, and an asking price, as well as what you paid for it. Since the dress has never been worn, if it's recent, you should probably be able to get at least half of what you paid for it. If the place is out of business, I agree with your mother, this may be the best route.
