Is anyone else anti-veil?

I went shopping at David's Bridal last week, and as i am standing in front of the mirror in a dress, the nice lady who was helping practically attacked me with a tiara and veil. She was horrified when I very flatly told her no thank you (I'd rather do something sinple--and I very much prefer to stay away from anything that suggests "princess") The poor lady--you'd think I'd told her Santa wasn't real. Is anyone else out there anti-tiara and/or veil?

Re: Is anyone else anti-veil?

  • No to both! One of the consultants that was helping me with dresses was horrified as well...
  • I am anti-veil and strongly anti-tiara. Pretty much everyone tried to talk me into a veil, like I won't look like a bride without it. I think my mom actually said "how will people know who the bride is?" Seriously? I don't know, maybe if it will make my mom happy I will get a small one just for the ceremony but I will already be wearing a flower in my hair so I don't really think it goes.

  • Meh, you'll have to forgive the shop ladies. I bet that the majority of the time, they make the sale the moment they put the veil on the girl's head. You just threw them off standard operating procedure.

  • I'm anti tiara. i'm not becoming Miss America or Queen of Norway I'm becoming a Mrs. a tiara is not necessary. I am doing a veil though sigh. I thought I wouldn't like it but I tried one on with my dress and it looked nice.
  • I had the same experience at David's I wasn't even dress shopping for me. I was shopping with bridesmaids. I told them I wasn't wearing a veil they thought it was their personal crusade to convince me that I needed one.
  • I was actually pretty anti-veil until I started dress shopping. The consultant and my BM asked what I thought I would do and I just told them I'd wear my hair down with a flower or something but "I'll try one on for kicks just to see how it - oh..." I literally stopped mid-sentence once the consultant put the veil in my hair! It completed the look and was just beautiful!LOL...however..THAT being said...while I'm no longer anti-veil, I think I'm going to wear a beautiful jeweled comb instead. I'm not one for tradition or super-girly things so something like a flower or comb fits my personal style better.I think I'm over the tiara look as well. I wore one during senior prom and that was enough. My best friend wore one when she got married, but I recall her telling me that since she never went to prom, this was her chance to be a princess for a day. It made her happy and she was beautiful so that's all that mattered in the end!
  • I am also anti-veil and anti-tiara. I want a flower in my hair and its going to be down. I'm quite the rebel. So feel free to not be pressured into something you don't want. It's your day you decide.

  • I'm wearing a very simple veil, just yesterday my daughter had me trying on tiaras, I was like, I don't know about this. I thought they looked better on her than me....oh well we'll see.
