Panic about dress! HELP!

I ordered the Poppy dress by Maggie Sottero from 'Fantasy Wedding by Anna Marie' in New Jersey. I live in Trinidad so I flew all the way to the United States just to try it on and order it. I called today to find out if all is well with the order (which I did as well the day after I ordered it and they said everything was ok) and they tell me oh oops they ordered size 6 instead of size 4.Now granted the dress has a corset closing so it can pull tight the store said the size 6 can only be pulled as small as a size 4....problem with that...my bust is a size 2 (so the 4 would have been perfect...just pull as much or as little as needed in certain parts). So now I am in Trinidad where I will possibly not find anyone to adjust the dress neatly AND I'm gonna have to put out a whole set of money due to the store's mistake. What should I do? The dress is the most important part of the wedding to me and I feel like its ruined. Should I get the store to adjust the dress to a size 4 for me without being there to try it on after? Would they even have time for that? It's due to arrive by me on Oct 15th and my wedding is NOV 15th.Please advise! Panicking!

Re: Panic about dress! HELP!

  • The store should be held responsible for the mistake. Call them and see if they will cover the costs of altering the bust to your measurments. The only problem there might be that they'll want to do it at their shop, when you might not be able to be there. Maybe you could find someone to measure you where you live, then pass along the information to the bridal shop to do the alterations?

  • Thanks its a good idea...but I panic that they would be upset about having to do it at no cost and not do it properly and of course they need to do it really quickly cause as is, the time for the dress to be shipped to me is sort of shortutm_campaign=tickers"><img src="http://global.theknot.com/tools/tickers/tt3ac60.aspx&quot; alt="Wedding Countdown Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • Anyone know how to contact Maggie Sottero corporate?
  • Look over your sales contract. They should have given you a bill of sales stating the dress size you wanted, the color and an expected arrival date. You get on the phone and call Maggie Sottero Corporate regarding this store. Tell them exactly the circumstances under which the store made the mistake of ordering the dress in the wrong size for you. And then call the store and tell them oops is not freaking good enough. You purchased the gown under the size 4, and you will not accept anything short of a gown in a size 4. That you will not listen to any excuses all you care about is results. And if they can't give you what you want they can talk to your lawyers. You have two options: you can force them to send the dress back and put it on rush(the Manufacturers do that when the store screws up), or you can demand that they either alter the dress at no extra charge or take it to another seamstress and have them pay for it. The thing is, after they made this screw up why would you want to put your fate in their hands?  You already trusted them once, why should you trust them again? In either case, report them to the BBB. And if they cannot deliver your the dress size you ordered before your wedding date, demand a full refund or that you will take them to court for their carelessness and incompetence.
