Dressing Up a Informal Dress

I am having a June garden ceremony with under 40 people, so I'm looking for a more casual dress. My bridesmaids are wearing tea-length dresses and the groomsmen are wearing suits w/ vests & ties. That was no problem to figure out. But I'm really worried about my dress. I like this David's Bridal dress and was wondering if I could dress it up by giving it a small train when its hemmed [its VERY long] and wearing a chapel length veil and fancy headband? I don't want to look too casual for my own wedding, but I also want to be comfortable and keep the budget low... http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49976983&currentIdx=4&subCategory=-49976996|-49976995|-49976983&catentryId=2000258&sort= I have found two Bonny dresses I really like, but I'm not sure I should spend an extra $400. I don't actually like the others a LOT more than this one, I am just worried about it not looking like a "wedding dress."

Re: Dressing Up a Informal Dress

  • I think the dress is really nice and if you aren't having a super fancy wedding then it will work perfectly fine. I don't know how a train would look with that fabric. It might look weird and it would be harder to bustle if you wanted. I do think the Cathedral Veil would be great at making the look more "bridal".
  • I'm not sure about a train with that dress either. A veil is of course the ultimate bridal accessory if you're worrying about wanting to really "look like a bride". I also think that a nice headband/tiara, beautiful earring and bracelet would do a lot to dress up that dress. In reference to the other, more expensive dresses, have you tried seeing if Pearl's Place carries them? I got my dress for $700 cheaper from there (an original, not knock-off. See post further down the page about it). I would not have been able to afford it otherwise.
  • I'll try Pearl's Place - I hadn't looked there yet. Thanks for the reassurances! Its always nice to have a second and third opinion back you up :)
