Under the dress

So I have looked at what seems like thousands of dresses haha and I think I am going to buy the 2nd dress I tried on haha. It is the Maggie SOttero Jovi. My question is out of every store I went to only 1 ever made me try on a bra and a slip with my dress. Do I HAVE to have this or can I wear the dress without either of these things. I am going to buy my dress on Friday and I will ask the people at the store to, but I just wanted to know what everyone else is doing, especially if you have this dress. Thanks!!

Re: Under the dress

  • I don't think they are necessary as long as your feel comfortable with what you're wearing. If your dress is formfitting and you have any little bumps or just feel like you want it to be smoothed out then you should look into a slip or spanx. If you feel like you're not covered enough or supported enough in the chest look into getting cups sewn into you dress.

  • Im wearing a corset bra & possibly spanx under my dress. No slip.
  • My maggie (nyna) is a corset back with an A-line skirt.  My seamstress sewed in bra cups for me and showed my girls how to tighten the corset so that none of my lumps and bumps show. I thankfully only have to fine a cute pair of undies. Talk to your seamstress about your options, and like PP said do what you are comfortable with.  You want to be pretty, but you also need to remember you will be wearing the "outfit" for a long while and for a variety of activities.

  • I'm not bothing with anything extra underneath. The bust of every dress I've tried on (75-100 of them!) were all structured enough that I didn't need a bra underneath, and I'm a D cup. A lot of the dresses I've tried were Maggies, and I definately didn't need anything extra with those. Hers are made well and if yours has a corset back, that will allow you to tighten for extra support if you need it.  (I tried a bra with the first couple of dresses, and then found they fit better and are more comfortable w/out it.)Personally, I hate the hassle of making sure a strapless bra is in the right place, and I've seen several brides with bras showing out of the top of their dresses in their pictures.
