Dress Regret..

Hi ladies! I purchased a dress a few days ago and now I’m feeling some buyers remorse and don’t know what to do ☹. I originally wanted a very flowy “Grecian” dress so that’s mainly the style I tried on the first time I went dress shopping (which was at bridal and formal). I found a few I liked there but the one I fell in love with was way out of my price range so I decided to try David’s Bridal next. I found one there that I thought looked and felt great and it was only $350 so I pretty much had my mind set on that dress. Right after I tried on all the dresses I picked out, my bridal consultant said she wanted me to try one more that was a style I hadn’t considered and she thought it would look beautiful on me, so I figured I’d give it a shot. As soon as I came out of the dressing room, my mom and sister lit up and my mom actually cried because she said it looked so stunning. At that point, everyone nearby looked over and said it was beautiful and another bride a few dressing rooms over must have liked it too because she had her bridal consultant get her the same one to try on. I think all the attention I got with the dress on was the main reason I decided to buy it right then and there. And it was $700. which I did not plan on spending. Now I keep seeing other dresses that I think are beautiful and the more I look the more I regret buying the one I did. I know on my receipt it says all sales are final but I have read on a few other posts that some girls have been able to cancel orders at David’s Bridal. I know they said it would take a few weeks for the dress to come in so I don’t actually have it in my possession yet. And I’m not 100% sure I don’t want it. I just have a whole year to go before my wedding and I don’t want to be unsure about my dress the whole time. I was thinking maybe I could alter it in someway so that it could be strapless but I’m not sure if that’s even possible or if I could afford it. Here’s the link of the dress I got (I got it in ivory though, not white) http://img4.realsimple.com/images/09weddings/galina-gown_300.jpg Anyways, what do you guys think I should do? I don’t know if I have many options but if anyone has experience with david’s bridal and if returns are possible let me know. But any advice at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Dress Regret..

  • I would call the store right away and let them know how you feel and that you would like to cancel your order. See what they say. If the dress hasn't been made/ordered yet they may allow you to cancel or use store credit. Even if you weren't planning on spending that much you might be able to buy the 1st dress you like and use the other money towards bridesmaid dresses or accessories. The other option is to wait until it comes in and see how you feel about it again. If you don't love it, sell it online. You will lose some money but just move on and buy a dress you love. You can also show the photo of the dress to a seamstress to ask about alterations. It looks like that might be complicated to make it strapless. Good luck and remember that there are always options.
  • I agree with pp, check with DB right away to see what they will do. Even if they don't give you a refund you still might get some sort of credit. Good luck. Hopefully you get your dream dress.
  • I don't know, I think it's a beautiful dress, and in fact I'd consider it part of the "grecian" category. I love it. How did you feel about it personally when you tried it on? It's very classy and sophisticated.
  • I was in your exact same situation with the first gown that I bought from David's Bridal!! While the gown you bought is VERY gorgeous (I actually tried it on myself), I was able to get a FULL REFUND on the gown that I bought that I ended up not really liking. If you are sure that you don't want the gown, first call your local store to see if you can get a refund and if they aren't helpful then call the corporate office: (610) 834-1500). I just explained a number of reasons why I felt pressured into buying the gown (e.g., the sales women told me that it could be discontinued, I was given a sales booklet, I wasn't ready to make a decision, but the sales lady was pushy, etc.) and I was given all of my money back!!! It was such a huge relief!!! I hope that this helps :) Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone for responding!! I think the price is the main reason why i started doubting the dress in the first place and the fact that i was SO set on getting a strapless. But i keep trying to think about how i felt when i had it on and i really felt beautiful in it I just don't like that I'm feeling uncertain about it. I just wish i had tried on a few more to make sure i was 100% happy with this one. I got an email saying that the dress is ready so I'm going to go try it on again and if i still feel unsure about it I'm going to talk to them at the store. and if I have to I'll call corporate (thanks a2crane for including their number!!). I really appreciate everyone's help :) I'll be sure to post an update once I know what I'm going to do about it!!
