Train or No Train?

Okay, I already bought a dress for my August 2010 wedding that has this huge full tulle skirt, halter top, and lots of beading with faux pearls and gems on the top. At the time, I didn't think I wanted a train on the dress. It just didn't matter to me. Now, that I'm getting closer to the wedding and looking at more and more dresses, I think I'm getting dress envy!My dress needs to be altered because it's about 6-7 inches to long for me. Do you think it would be okay to have them leave the back long and just shorten the front? I think if it had just a small amount of train I might like it more.I thought about doing a long veil to create the train but I never like how that looks in photos when the veil is longer than the dress. For me, it just doesn't look right. Before I didn't like trains, but now they just seem to be part of what makes the dress for a wedding and not for a prom. But then again, I don't want to be stepping all over the dress or have others stepping on it at the reception. And because it's a tulle skirt, it seems like it would be hard to pin up for the reception. Should I just leave the train off or have them create one? This is the dress:http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995489&currentIdx=16&subCategory=-49999486|-49998998|-49995489&catentryId=6123308&sort=

Re: Train or No Train?

  • ditto pp.   I also really like a dress and was a bit bummed at the very short train, but then I realized that it would be bustled the majority of the day anyway!
  • I agree with PP, but maybe you could ask them during a fitting what it might look like if you only shortened the front and that way you can get a feel for it? I'd think they could pin or do something to create the effect. Gorgeous dress by the way :)
  • Have you ever thought of seeing if they could contact the designer to get extra fabric and have a seamstress make a detachable train? My train was detachable & I honestly think it was the best thing since sliced bread. As soon as the pictures were done, that puppy came off and I didn't have to worry about a bustle or anyone tripping on it. I have also seen several tulle dresses with them, so I could totally see yours with one as well.
  • well I have to say that is one heck of a train on previous post...thank GOD it is detachable...Your dress is kind of big and busy and I wouldn't add to that...but what about a cathedral length veil...I would keep it very simple, maybe just a  few randomly placed rhinestone so it's like adding a sheer sheet of sparkle to the back. Then I would take that off and dance the night away in a trainless dress (I bet it's heavy already, don't add to it)
