dress frustration!!! Please help!

Hi Ladies, I just wanted to know if anyone might have some advice for me.  I have been searching for my dress, and it is very difficult as my time is extremely limited due to graduate school.  Not to mention work.  And the fact that my mother is really into helping me with the dress and is totally insistent upon paying for it--which is totally awesome!!!--except she lives in California and can only come out so many times.  Further limiting the amount of time I have to search!  Anyway, I am having the worst time, because I have completely fallen in love with the Maggie Sottero "Sandra" dress, which is last years dress.  I can't find it ANYWHERE, except for one person online who is selling it.  I keep looking at other dresses because I want to be able to try on my dress instead of just buying it online without trying it on.  But I just keep coming back to that dress.  It's getting to the point where I feel like I am being shown the same stuff over and over, and I am not finding anything new.  I did find one dress that I liked, but--it's still not the Sandra.  Has anyone else had problems like this?  I'm really not sure what to do.  Wondering if my fellow knotties have any suggestions:-)

  • My advise is if you know that is "the ONE" dont stop until you find it! I had the same problem locating my dress. I called local shops and no one had it. So finally I called the designer and asked where the closest place was with my dress in the store. Then you can call the store and go there or call a store that is closer to you and does not have it, but can get it on loan from another store. I lucked out b/c I had a trip planned to FL, and just so happen a bridal salon close to my hotel in FL had the dress, so I bought it there, however I could have had it loaned to a store closer to my house.
  • Hi, I know exactly what you are going through because the same thing has just happened to me. After looking at (probably thousands) of dresses online, I finally found "the one" only to have it disappear on me the very next day (from the designer's site). I contacted the disigner's corporate office and found out that it was discontinued, but that I could still order through them until a certain date (Oct. 1st)  before it goes out of production. So, you may want to contact Maggie's corporate office and see if it's still available for order, or maybe if they have a sample of it somewhere. Another option you have it to take as many photos (angles) of the dress you have and take to to a dressmaker to be custom made exactly how you want it. I am currently trying to decide if I am going to order a $2000 dollar dress that I'm in love with, but won't be able to try on  because I can't find anywhere that still has my dress since it was discontinued. Best of luck finding, trying on, purchasing that dream gown!

  • Honestly, my advice is to go to bridal stores and try on dresses.  I was in love with a lot of San Patrick dresses and when I tried them on they didn't look good on my body.  The dress I walked away with is not online anywhere and I absolutely love it!  Sometimes what you think is "the one" ends up not being "the one."  So try dresses on, you'll probably be surprised!
  • If you absolutely cannot find that dress anywhere, maybe try another that is similar. If you like the cut, then it wouldn't be ask risky ordering it. Also, if you find an authorized Maggie seller, then they should be able to order that style for you. Here's other Maggies you could try:AmbelineVogueVonda
