Your thoughts - Second reception dress?

I am hearing this bandied about more and more as an option for brides. I have seen it done (mostly on tv wedding shows), and I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this, or knows of anyone who did? What was the cost involved? Was it worth it? Was the second dress as expensive as the first?I'm just curious, because even if I did (and I admit, I have entertained the idea), I would need that second dress to be as special as the first, and I'm thinking that is gonna mean expensive...thoughts?

Re: Your thoughts - Second reception dress?

  • It's just another way the wedding industry is trying to get your money.  Don't fall for it.I love my dress and paid enough for it that you're going to have to force me out of it at the end of the day.

  • It's very normal/expected in my culture to have several different reception dresses, but I didn't do it. I savoured every moment of being in my wedding dress.

  • I'm thinking about getting a second dress b/c our reception is going to be more like a club with changes in lighting. I imagine dress would be almost as much as gown b/c I only like certain designers.
  • My opinion is that you only have one day to wear your wedding dress so enjoy being a bride in your beautiful gown. I spent enough time looking for mine and I plan to enjoy it for all it's worth. :)
  • I don't like the idea of changing (unless you're changing into a cultural outfit or your mother's dress or something). I think you should just buy a gown from the getgo that you're comfortable and happy in and that you can spend all night in. I think it's a waste of money, and a bit of an attention-grab, to make a costume change for the reception.

  • Great comments, ladies...while I admit, I did consider it, I do agree with you...the thought of spending so much $ on a dress and wearing it for only 45 minutes does seem crazy. And yes, this is the only day (Lord Willing) that I'll ever to have to wear that dress and be a bride...Thanks for the feedback...I'll stick with the one!
