Pronovias for a plus-sized girl

Hello all, I've never ventured onto this board, but I was hoping that someone could help me with a slight issue I'm having. There's this gorgeous Pronovias gown I'm completely obsessed with that they have at their flagship in Manhattan in a size 14 (roughly a street size 10). I'm a street size 16. Honestly, I'm scared out of my mind about trying on dresses that they're going to have to clamp onto my body in order for me to get a "better idea" of what it's going to look like (if it can even make it over my hips)... but once I order it in my size, there's no going back, you know? I'm losing weight in preparation for the wedding, but I'm not losing it at a rate to where I can fit into a street size ten by the time I need to go dress shopping. Anyone in a similar situation? Any words of advice? TIA!

Re: Pronovias for a plus-sized girl

  • Hmmm... I may not have the exact response you're looking for, but I can tell you my experience.I don't consider myself "plus size" ... I'm about a street size 12. Sometimes a 14, but usually a 12. I went to the Pronovias store in Manhattan and tried on "the one" (Diamante). I knew it the moment I put it on. It was a size 14. Only my sister was with me, so I wanted to show my mom and one of my BMs. I'm from NJ, so I found a local shop that had the dress, and made an appointment. When I get there, I find out that the sample they have is a 10. I tried it on, and it just had NONE of the "wow" that I loved about the dress in the first place. Then I learn they also had a 12 in the back, but still... it just wasn't the dress I loved. I'm having major doubts about the dress at all at this point.A few weeks later we go back tot he Manhattan store, try on the bigger sample and voila! It was perfect.I guess my bottom line is that, for my Pronovias, the fit *was* super important. I never would've picked that dress if I had tried the 12 on first... I still think you should go and try it on, but it may be hard to envision, depending on what the dress style is.... Sorry if this was a downer...
