Sample sales and my petite stature

This weekend I went to my first sample sale in a place where they claimed to have the most dresses in under one roof in the US.  I fell in love with a lot of dresses there.  Pronovias, Priscilla of Boston, etc. they had it all, for only $100-500.  The sad part is, I'm a street size 0 or 2, being a petite Asian girl barely 5'2'' and 100 lb.  The sample sales are usually in size 10 or 12.  I don't know what to do!1. Is alteration that much going to ruin most of the dresses?2. Approximately how much is alteration work when they're altered heavily like mine would be, with take-ins, rebeading, hemming, etc?The next sample sale of that kind of caliber will be next fall.  I want to be prepared to make a decision whether I get a sample sale dress or a custom dress.

  • I've heard the most that some dresses can be taken in is 3 to 4 sizes and it depends on the dress. I would think that heavy beading would be an issue, but I'm not positive. I'm thinking that a dress with a corset back would be easier to alter. If you're looking at taking a dress in, rebeading, and hemming, you could be looking at $400 in alterations.
  • I tried several sample dresses on but being so short (5'1) ordering one was not practical. Since so much would have to be taken off on the bottom I felt like I would lose important pieces of the dress.
