Has anyone had their dress made?

I want to have a custom made dress but I don't know where to begin.  Has anyone had their dress made or is having their dress made?  How did you get started?  Did you ever regret it?I'm located near Chicago and if anyone has any tips or suggestions I would be greatful.

Yes, I knew exactly what I wanted and it didn't exist, so I had it made. But not in the Chicago area, so I can't really help with a reference... No regrets at all! Pics in bio.

I might be going this route too, but I'm in Minneapolis. I checked out Etsy and found a designer in the Chicago area, can't remember their name though. Otherwise, a knottie on my local board went to fabric stores and asked them for referrals and got a couple names and numbers, you can try that!

I looked on Etsy too - Emily Rohm is the Chicago-based one, if I'm not mistaken! Her stuff looks great and the prices seem good!
