$600.00 mistake -bad info knot.com trunk show

Knot.com's article 101 shopping truck shows has incorrect information. Stores DO offer a discount, depending on the store The discount range from 10-12%. It is probably the only way to get a discount. We had a choice of 3 stores for a designer trunk show. We purchased a dress - no discount was offered. However, we then discovered both other stores offered the discount during the same trunk show schedule. We would have purchased the dress at the other store/s - with a $600 discount. Our contract is signed - no recourse to get the discount. Had I not read the article from Cindy Hobson I would have expected a discount .Shame on Knot.com, shame on Cindy Hobson for doing such a disservice to their readers- especially in this economy. Where are the experts??

• Why didn't you ask the salon about getting a discount (trunk show or not)? You really can't blame the knot for this.

• I agree with pp. It's your fault for not asking. You should always ask... the worst thing they could have said was no. Plus, it is always best to shop around... why did you just assume it would be the same everywhere. This is not TK's fault. In this economy, bridal stores are doing almost anything they can to one-up the other stores, and offer special deals and prices. Also, every designer is different, so not all trunk shows and sales are the same.
• Wait, so what you're saying is, not everything on the Internet is always true? Dang.

• I agree with the previous posters. However I do agree that is was a mistake...ON YOUR PART! It is not the responsibility of the knot to ensure you have all pertinant information before making a major purchase such as a wedding dress. The knot is only here as a resource. And you are right considering the economy YOU should have asked the dress shops. It is YOUR responsibility to research the purchase, and negotiate any and all discounts for yourself. I too, negotiated a discount on my dress, and there was NO trunk show. furthermore if the article did say you could POTENTIALLY get a discount, it does not mean that particular store would have to comply with a knot article, as each store has its own policies. You can blame the knot if you want to, but they had nothing to do with it...sorry! BTW the experts are here, but you failed to ask, there have been numerous posts about negotiating a discount w/ dress shops. Maybe you can go back and negotiate you accessories, attendants attire, MOB etc. It never hurts to ASK!
• appreciate your reply -we did ask the store - they said they did not give a discount - same as the article said ... however I didnot ask if other shops gave a discount  - was not an appropriate question.   I am sure they would not say yes - with a potential customer in front of them I still say the knot should be more careful with what they write as an expert they should check and proof their advice - especially when the article is 101 - why post info if it is incorrect
• You can't rely on others to do the right thing...you can only rely on yourself.  Even if the knot was a complete scam, it is still your responsibility to check the evidence of sources.  I'm sure you wished you had done your research beforehand, and perhaps in the future you will seek multiple sources of evidence before making such an important decision.  We all make mistakes, but it's what we learn from those mistakes that makes the difference.

• If you know the dress you like is carried by other shops it is in your best interest to do a little leg work. The knot while a great resource can't hold your hand the entire time. If you really like a practicular dress call to other dress shops who carry it and ask their price and if they will be a doing a trunk show or sample sale where you can obtain the dress at a discount. It's not the knot's fault you didn't want to call or stop by other shops and do some investigations.
• I take it you're referring to this section: Anything Else I Should Know? Understand that a trunk show is not a sale. The dresses are not discounted. But, if you're serious about purchasing a dress you try on at a trunk show, the designer may throw in a few extras (buttons down the back, additional length on the sleeves or the train) without charging you more. This relatively small savings could make a big difference if you're working with a tight budget. And I think you read it out of context. The way I read it, it's saying "Don't expect to walk into a trunk show to find a cheap dress because you might be disappointed." Which is true - if you had expected a discount, and gone to your store and found out that they didn't offer one, you would have been surprised and upset, no?Take some responsibility for your own actions.

• What TK was saying in the article is true. Not all designers give discounts at trunk shows but a lot offer to throw in little extras if you plan on buying everything that day. I still think that you are trying to lay blame because you didn't shop around and then found out that other places were offering a discount. This isn't TK fault that you didn't get a discount (nor is their information in the article misleading) nor is it the bridal salons. You knew that there were three stores holding the trunk show so you should have called and asked more about how they handle trunk shows (i.e. do they give a discount, how many gowns will the designer be showing). It is the BRIDES responsibility to do the digging. If you purchased the dress without even asking about a discount then you shouldn't complain.

• djzny5...I need to draw your attention to the fact that there obviously is some truth the article, as YOU did NOT receive a discount. Furthermore odds are if you asked the dress shop, in person you might have gotten a discount. You need to take at least some responsibility, as you are an adult!
