White and Ivory???

Hello, I have a small question. Really, I don't know whether or not this belongs here or the "Wedding Day Beauty" section, but it does involve my dress so...I decided here :)Okay, so my wedding theme is "The Arts" and my decoration is basically just like a library...bookshelves and all. So I wanted any of the accents (flowers, programs, invites, decor, etc.) to all be ivory because it seems more regal and vintage. That being said, I wanted a really vintage look for myself. I love the idea of a white dress but I like everything ivory. My idea has been to put all of the decor AND my accessories (right down to my nailpolish) in ivory and have my dress be the only WHITE thing at the wedding. I was worried that if I did white and ivory together that the contrast would be too much. But maybe if I'm wearing the only white element it may look kind of unique...Does anyone think this is a good idea or do you have any suggestions? I ordered a birdcage veil in ivory with a pearl brooch but it's really more of a cream color (think vanilla) so it will go with white or ivory. And my garter set is ivory, but I don't have any more accessories yet because I'm waiting for my dress. Any advice?

Re: White and Ivory???

  • Buy the colour of dress that you like and looks flattering on you. No one will notice the difference between shades of white, trust me.

  • You're really overthinking this. People aren't going to notice or care about different shades of white/ivory at your wedding. To them, ivory = white, white = white, ecru = white, etc. You're going to drive yourself (and everyone around you) insane if you micromanage things to this level. Just get stuff that you like and stop worrying about matching everything ... because other people really, REALLY aren't going to care about tiny details like this.

  • Seriously??? I read a post by a girl once who was worried the white tent would clash with her ivory gown....... NO. ONE. WILL. NOTICE. You probably won't. The most beautiful weddings are the ones that AREN'T all matchy-matchy......
  • I second that you should pick the color of the gown based on which shade looks the best on you.

  • I recently purchased my wedding gown!! What I've been told is that matching the veil and the gown are key. There are some brides that have purchased a white dress and a ivory veil (or visa versa) and it really shows in pictures. Since you already purchased a veil in ivory, I would suggest picking that color for your dress. AND it really goes with your "vintage" theme anyway. Keep in mind that you'll be the only one there in white (or ivory) so it really won't matter that much. Think about your skin tone too.
  • The only things I would care about matching are the dress and the veil.  A white dress and an ivory veil will look weird. As for your white dress v. ivory in the decorations, like PP said, no one will notice.
