What style BM Dress will go with my Dress

Hi,I just go my dress.  It's a Sottero and Midley and can be seen here  http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?line=s&page=2&style=RSM1032Now I'm looking for my Bridesmaid's dresses and can't figure out what style dress will look good with my gown.  Any suggestions would be great!

Re: What style BM Dress will go with my Dress

  • I don't think you ever really have to match BM dresses to wedding gowns. I mean, it's more about matching the formality than it is actually matching. Also, where the wedding is, what time of year, your colors, etc. all matter a lot. Can you fill us in more about the other details?
  • The photo has the model wearing the gown with sleeves.  I forgot to mention that I will not have sleeves with my gown.
  • The wedding is May 29, 2010 and will be held at a historic mansion, so it will be formal but intimate at the same time.  My colors are indigo blue and light green.
  • I also have a Sottero and Midgley dress. Yours looks beautiful!! If you are getting married in May i think something tea length for the girls would be cute! i just didn't want my bridesmaids to have a "poofier" dress than mine. And mine is A line. Good Luck! Your day will be here before you know it!
  • I think pretty much any strapless, tea length or knee length a-line style dress would be pretty. Aria has some really cute silk ones with sashes. You could do the dress in one shade and the sash in the other.
  • I wouldn't worry too much about the exact style of the BM dresses right now. It's more important to let them try things on and see what flatters their individual bodies. So in other words, don't go into dress shopping thinking that they HAVE to get certain necklines, or strapless, or lengths. Tea-length might make short girls look stumpy, strapless might not work on all the girls, certain colors might not flatter their skintones, etc. It's also O.K., and becoming more and more common, to just pick a designer/fabric/color/length and let them choose their own styles from there. That way, they're still uniform, but they can choose individually flattering dresses (and you won't have a grumpy-looking BM in your photos because she's stuffed into the same dress that someone half her size is also wearing). I think well-cut cocktail dresses, or plain long dresses, would look fine with your lovely gown. Maybe find something with a subtle lace accent to echo your dress if you all like that, like a lace band around the waist or something. You can bring in different colors with sashes or the trim.

  • i like the idea of a columnar silhouette made of chiffon- maybe something with an empire waist? adrianna papell makes beautiful long chiffon dresses that you can find at department stores like nordstrom, macy's, dillards etc. whatever you do, i would definitely avoid anything like charmeuse- it tends to show those great little bumps we ladies often get in our thighs and butts and also wrinkles like CRAZY. your dress is ab fab, btw!
  • I dont think you need to worry about matching the BM dresses to yours.  When I was looking around, the only thing that was important to me was that the material was similar to mine.  I had a strapless dress and my BMs ended up liking a spaghetti strap v-neck dress in the same material as mine, and I think they looked just fine together.I say the material was important is because my dress was charmeuse, which is a really shiny material.  I was afraid that if they got something like chiffon it would have made them look dull.  I think that chiffon or matte satin would look great  with a mostly lace dress like yours.  All just my opinion.  Gorgeous dress :)
