Alterations Help!

Hey ladies! My dress finally came in and fits really well! I took it in to my tailor yesterday to fix a problem in the lining and to have bra cups sewn in. I also ordered my shoes so they can add a bustle and hem it. My worry is my wedding is in July...am I doing this stuff too early? I'm not having anything let in or out yet because right now it doesn't need anything...when do brides normally do alterations?

Re: Alterations Help!

  • Normally it's done about 2 months before your wedding date because of weight loss or gain. If you're not a person who fluxuates in weight then you'll probably be fine but if you go up or down 5 lbs or more then you should wait for your final fitting. Talk to your seamstress though. If you've been quoted a total price for all of your alterations then they might not wait months to do the last fitting and may have an extra cost.

  • Usually not before 6-8 weeks out from the wedding date. If you're wedding isn't until July I think you should probably wait.
  • I am also getting married in July and am waiting until at least March or April to even think about starting the alterations.
