Altering a beaded, lacy dress?

So I fell in love with a dress that is covered in a very intricate, lace and bead design.  Unfortunately, it's made for someone with boobs about twice the size of mine, so I'd need to have it altered significantly before I could wear it.  My concern is that this can't be done without really messing up the design on the dress.  Has any one had their lacy, beaded gown altered?  How did it work out?  Thanks!

Re: Altering a beaded, lacy dress?

  • A good seamstress should have no problems. My daughter's dress was all alencon lace with beading. The seamstress had to take it in quite a bit, hem and made the straight neckline into a sweetheart neckline - and did a great job So, yea - a good seamstress should have no problem. Good luck.
  • I did! I had many major changes to my dress but the top was changed from a straight across neckline to a sweetheart and it was probably taken from a D-cup sizing to B! It wasn't cheap but was totally worth it. If you want to see pictures, email me at oliviosis@yahoo.com and I'll send you a kodak gallery link. My dress had a lace overlay attached by Swarovski crystal beading.

  • mine was a very beaded lace dressnd I had it taken in about a size. my tailor took it in from the back though, since it was a corset style and it was easier to accomplish that way. he took about an inch on either side of he lace up and tapered it more to fit my much smaller chest.
    kablah.....that is all.
  • My dress is beaded lace and it shouldn't be a problem to have it altered.
