Getting a Discount

I found a dress at Davids Bridal, but its a little out of my price range. Originally its $1050. My budget (which is strict) is more like $750. I was wondering how close I could get to my budget or if they would even give me a discount. Thanks for your help!

Re: Getting a Discount

  • They may knock some off if you buy the sample, but in my experience, not much.  (I think they took $50 off mine.)  You might have better luck looking for your dress on a site like preownedweddingdresses.com, oncewed.com, and so on.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • David's Bridal is having a $200 off sale on those dresses, so that should help a little bit.
  • Keep checking when they have sales, they may take a bit more off of it.  Also try Davinci Bridal, they knock off alot of DB dresses.  It depends on the dress.
  • Since at DB you're buying off the rack there is not an incentive for them to give a discount to sell a sample.  I would keep your eye on thier sales. Another idea is to see if they can throw in accessories (shoes, veil, headpiece etc.) if you were planning on getting any of that.  That way you can save $ from elsewhere in your budget if they can't come all the way down to where you need to be on the dress.
  • which dress were you looking at? What style#?
  • If you've found "the dress," then this may mean nothing to you.  But I started my dress search at DB and ended at the biggest boutique in Ohio...and  I was shocked at how great of a discount I was able to negotiate with the boutique. (From the sticker price of $1300 to $780 out the door!)  True, I'm sure that original price was marked up... but don't think that DB is the only place to get a gown that fits your budget. If you're set on the dress, try getting your veil, shoes, alterations, etc. thrown in.  I've heard David's is not very flexible on this, but it never hurts to ask!
  • It is an Oleg Cassini style CT314 size 14. I am really having a hard time with paying that much for a dress that I will only wear for one day. Thanks for all of the excellent suggestions. I have an appointment to try on the dress again and try to bargain. Wish me luck. I will let you know how it goes!
