what do you think?

I'm absolutely in love with this dress, but it 's over my budget. Do you think it's worth trying to get, or should i just give in & look for a different one? Re: what do you think?

  • it looks gorgeous on you.  I guess the big question is "how much over budget??"  :)
  • Ditto pp. It's beautiful. How much over are you talking?
  • I was aiming for $5-600 & it's $1,059.

  • Look for a pre-owned one online.

  • you could also try places like pearls and rk
  • It looks beautiful on you, really compliments your body. I would definately look at websites and maybe find it at a discounted price, or maybe budget down on something else, like flowers, to make up the difference on the dress.
  • It is definately beautiful. I tried on a gown like that and it didnt compliment me but it looks great on you. I ditto the other girls by saying look online. You might even be able to look around some more and find a dress like it within your budget. But then again what is an extra 500 or so for your dream dress. It really depends on how tight your budget is. You could even try selling some items on craigslist to make up for some of the money.

  • It's your money... why are you asking strangers to validate your decision to spend it? If you can somehow find the extra $500, go for it; if it means you won't be able to eat lunch for the next week, keep looking. It is a very pretty dress.

  • But then again what is an extra 500 or so for your dream dress. That's the worst advice ever. How can you say that to a complete stranger without knowing anything about their financial situation? $500 could mean a month's rent for someone.

  • Thats why I put it really depends on how tight your budget is right after that.... She could do like one of the other girls said and cut her cost in something else like flowers etc. Didnt mean anything rude about it. I also suggested selling some old items to help with the price difference....

  • I agree with Ring_Pop.  That's twice your budget.  It is a pretty dress, but I'd probably keep looking.
  • I do agree with the other girls, if you can't afford it, do not try to squeeze it out of your budget. I almost did that with a dress that I loved but then I kept looking and found a dress that I loved even more for 180.00 and the budget for my dress was the same exact budget as yours.

  • Why did you try it on if it wasn't in your budget to begin with? See, now you have to convince yourself to either not buy it and cry or buy it and try to justify the over budget. Don't forget that you'll need to also get alterations. Those can be pricy.

  • The dress looks amazing! Are there any other areas of the wedding that you could make up the extra $500 but still have what you want? That would be my course of action if I loved a dress that was over budget... See if there is another aspect of the wedding that you can take that money from... I also agree with some of the other pps to look for a used one... Good luck!!

  • You look really really pretty in the dress, but it is significantly over your budget proportionally.  What is a budget if you don't at least try to stick to it?  I am sure there are dresses that is over my budget that I might look even better in than the dress I bought, but I can't afford them so it's out of the question.  You know your financial situation the best so it's your call, but like other ppl said, you can try to find that dress in used/sample condition, or just keep looking!GL!

  • Who makes the dress?  Perhaps we can help you find it cheaper or used.

  • If that extra $500 would be put toward favors and ribbon wands and an aisle runner and designer shoes, I'd say to scrap those things and get the dress.   If $500 means hiring a crappy photographer, having a dry wedding or paying off your credit card, I'd look for it cheaper elsewhere or find something else that IS in your budget.

  • PP was right - do not forget  - ALTERATIONS COSTS vary, but I think are about $200 on average.
  • Awww you look so amazing in the gown!!! You also look like you are beaming :) If it were me, I would go ahead and go over budget and get it, but I think that you will have to make that decision for yourself depending on your situation. That gown makes me have major dress envy :)
  • If you love it go for it if you can! Beautiful dress!! Who is it by???

  • Doubling your budget is crazy. You can always try to find it preowned. I would keep looking though. There are a lot of beautiful wedding gowns out there. PS Dont try on anymore gowns out of your budget.
  • It's Jovi by Maggie Sottero. I've been looking at used ones, but the smallest one i've found is an 8, and i wear a 2-4. How much do you think it could be altered before it would mess it up? && it's the complete opposite of what i originally wanted (i was only looking at big puffy princess dresses) so when the person at the bridal store suggested i try it on, i figured i would hate it & didn't pay attention to the price. Bad choice.

  • I wear a 2-4 as well, and I had to order my Maggie in a 6.  I probably could have gone with the 8 too because of the corset back.  You could probably do the 8 and just tighten it up if that's really the dress you want.  I looks gorgeous on.  As other posters said though (or implied) don't be stupid...if you cannot afford it then don't get it.
