Experience dyeing a dress?

Hi everyone,

I am only having a maid of honor at my wedding and am looking for a regular cocktail dress since it's just her and I don't need to go the bridesmaid dress route.  I can't find anything I like in the color I'm looking for so I was thinking of doing a white dress and having it died.  I have zero experience with this so I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and if they have any tips.  I don't think I'd do it myself- would bring it to a professional but still looking for advice.  Many thanks!

Nailing a color perfectly, when you don't have any experiencing dying something will be extremely difficult even if you pick a dress in a dyable fabric. Call around and look for a place that will dye something. Perhaps another wedding shop, as they likely have done this before with shoes and such.

    Good luck!

I am kind of in the same boat.. i have one moh and thats it, and its really hard finding a color that i want in a apporiate dress! honestly i wish i just had her order something from a bridal shop.
Anyway, I didnt think about dying anything but we are going to go with the infinity dress. I know a few people who wore these to weddings as bridemaids and there cut, and they actually still wear them..
They come in a million colors.. I found hers on etsy. Maybe you can check that out before you commit to dying. The one she is getting is like 60 dollars.
  • Dyeing it wouldn't be the best idea.  What colour are you looking for?  Have you checked department stores?

Another choice is to do a black dress and accent it with a belt/sash in your colour or some awesome flowers in your colours.
  • Thanks for all the advice. I'm looking for eggplant/deep purple but its not really in season now. I'll check out the infinity dress!
  • Natural fabrics dye well, synthetics don't
