opinions please - veil?

I am torn between 2 dresses. One fits the style I am going for but will need a lot of alterations to give it the fit I want but I know it will work very well with the netted bird cage veil/father facinator I want to wear.
The 2nd dress isn't nearly as modern or sexy but I loved it too. I know this dress is probably more within my fiance's comfort zone of style but I just cannot imagine a vintage inspired cage veil with this dress.
Sheer veils no matter the length just feel way to traditional for me which is opposite of what I am going for.

Thoughts - Do you think a french net cage veil & feather facinator (AND feather bouquet) could go with this dress?
(sorry can't access the actual pic of me wearing the dress from work)

the other dress I am liking I feel goes more with the look, but may be TOO modern/sexy for my fi's taste.

i had to tuck in strap and pin in a sweetheart neckline and broach for this effect.

  • When you look at the photos in ten years, will you still love your dress? I feel like the birdcage veil is a bit too trendy for my tastes but it's all about what you like. If you aren't sold on either gown perhaps you haven't found the right gown yet. I personally prefer the first gown you posted as it isn't as over the top trendy.

  • I'm not really worried about thinking I would have changed my mind, I'm extremely non-traditional (traditional personally appalls me), I just want to look back and know I took full advantage of the day/time because I will never get to play dress up again. I would prefer to avoid a "bridal" look because I feel it is more filling a predertermined role than it is embracing myself individually.
Ironically I've gone backwards about everything lol. I chose a peacock theme before I knew it was a theme, then found out it is the most popular theme. I picked all ruffled/modern dresses before I found out it was going to be the trend for the year. Crazy huh? lol

  • Personally, I hate the bird cage veil.  Way too trendy and not my style at all.  But to me the dress is way more important than the headpiece anyways.  So if I were you i would go with the dress I love and then pick my headpiece after.  Of the 2 dresses I like the first one better.  You also don't need to wear any veil.  My headpiece is all I wore and I loved that I could wear it all day and night.

The 'feather duster dress' style has been around for several years so it's not exactly cutting-edge trendy.  However, that has nothing to do with anything, so if you love it, go for it.  It's NMS, but it's not my wedding!

IMO, I'd do the birdcage veil with dress #1 - Dress 2 + birdcage veil might be a bit much and look silly together.
  • I love the second dress, but I think a birdcage veil would be a bit much with it. Perhaps you could compromise and use the haircomb/fascinator the veil would be attached to sans veil if you opt to go with the second gown.

  • The second dress looks to be of better quality, and  I love the shape!  It also looks great on you! I think a small birdcage with feathers or a flower would accent the style and not be overpowering at all.

  • I love the first. It is very elegant and gorgeous. Here is a veil I love and I think it matches your dress well.
