What to do with the rings? (sorry a bit long)

Ok so here's the deal.

I have a gorgeous bypass engagement ring, so the wedding band is made very specifically to fit the ring. My fiance also had the engagement ring altered slightly so the band too needs to be altered slightly.

Here's my dilemma. Do I get the two pieced and welded together before the wedding and just go without my engagement ring for a few weeks or do I wait until after our honeymoon?

Here's my issues with both...If I get them pieced together before the wedding, then I wouldnt have my enagement ring in any of the pictures prior to the ceremony (when we're planning on doing most of our pictures). I'm not sure if this is even a big deal, because I don't remember it being hugely noticeable in any of our engagement pictures, so I'm not even sure if this is a big issue. Or I guess I could always just wear the two together for photos prior to the ceremony, but would that be weird?

If I don't get them altered and put together before the ceremony I would have to do it after our honeymoon. This would leave me without both rings for a week or two. It would also mean the two rings are loose and can slip apart on my finger. This wouldn't be a huge issue with a normal ring, but since mine is a bypass it literally only fits ONE way, and looks really wrong if it's not fitted together exactly. The way the bands are too is that if they slip passed each other and the little arms get locked a certain way it leaves a huge gap between the two.

Suggestions?

  • wait until after.  Then go try on a band the width that those rings will be together on your finger.  Normally when you put them together they will feel smaller and need to be sized up.

The size really isn't the issue though...

But PP still solved your problem. She just gave additional advice. The solution is to wait and have them soldered after the wedding. And she is quite correct that you will need to determine then if they might need to be sized. Give it a week or two to see how they feel together on your finger before taking them to a jeweler.

ETA: And you did make it sound like the current size bothers you.

  • I say wait till after too.  Don't forget you always have the 'European' option of wearing one on each hand.  I will have to do that since my engagement ring is a 1920's family heirloom that won't fit on the same finger as the wedding band.
