Buying a sample gown in advance---how to store/preserve??

So I found the perfect bridal gown and since the style is being discontinued, I can buy the sample dress for half the price. My only concern is that our wedding isn't until June 2012 so I'm worried that the dress or beading might discolor over the next year and a half. Does anyone have advice as to how to store the dress to prevent this from occurring or do you think its probably not a good idea to buy the dress this far in advance? Please let me know what you think :)

Re: Buying a sample gown in advance---how to store/preserve??

  • Personally, I wouldn't buy a gown this early, because it's too easy for your tastes to change, or your wedding to change in style, or you to change sizes dramatically.

If you are dead set on it though, store the gown flat (under a bed is good) in a garment bag. If the bag is plastic, air out the gown once a month so that the gases which cause yellowing don't build up.
  • I bought mine as a sample (10 mos out from my wedding) and stored it @ home in a white, breathable garmet bag. I would take it out every so often, but felt comfortable using the breathable bag (found it on eBay for maybe $20)?  Definitely store it in a cool, dry place (mine went into a closet in guest room) and far away from any animals..cats love to claw the bags.

  • I have heard that wrapping a white sheet around it is another alternative to a garment bag.
