NWR: Anybody want to brainstorm costume ideas?

H got us tickets to a The Night Circus Gala in April. I'm really excited, and trying to come up with something to wear. The costume categories are Steampunk, Character, and Black, White &Red, but I'm leaning towards the colors rather than a specific character. I have a gorgeous black brocade corset that I would love to wear, but am having a hard time coming up with a skirt design. A short black skirt with a black lace overskirt with a bustle was my original idea, but I worry that will read more saloon gal than late Victorian circus.

I kind of want to do a bustled skirt in black and white stripes, but am concerned about time and cost if I were to do a full length. I'm definitely wearing red shoes.

Pinterest is good for inspiration, but I'm not finding anything I'm completely sold on.

Fishnets or stocking with a seem up the back would be nice!
I like the idea of a short dress like try and do the one on the cover but shorter. A hat is a must I think! Or a parasole that is tatered?!
That is a cute skirt. Also WHITE face with red lipstick just in the middle Kinda like that but not as creepy!

I also like the one on the left??? not the top but a skirt like that?

 Love that with the little short/pants and the puff in the back! that could be something you could make if you found the right lenght leggins.. just glue a little lace at the botton and stuff some tulle in the top coming down! hahaha I'm having way to much fun at work today!

What if I made something like the picture below, but with a hi-low hemline? I need to be able to dance, and want to show my red shoes.

I personally hate high low hemlines... I don't know why I hate them so much but I think other then my hate for those hem lines it would be ok and show off your shoes.
