Undergarment Help

I have a dress that I absolutely love with an open back (not strapless). My problem is that I wear a D cup. Just wondering if anyone else has faced this problem and has suggestions for undergarments. I've had some say to have the alterations include a sewn-in cup, but does that really give a lot of support? Are "pasties" better? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Undergarment Help

  • I think you should speak with your seamstress regarding this problem.  I am sure she has dealt with this before and would be able to give you her professional opinion as to what to do.

How low does your dress go in the back?  Would you be able to wear a bustier that dips really low in the back (backless strapless bras)?  And this maybe very personal but do the "girls" hang low or are they pretty perky for being on the larger size?  This may help to determine if you will be ok with just sewn in cups or if you would need additional support.

I plan to talk to the seamstress but was hoping to have it resolved in advance so that going in for fittings I'd be prepared. On the other note, they're not exactly perky (like fake might be) but they're in good shape. I'm young and have never had children so they're still where they belong. I know there's a bit of a cup in the slip part of my dress, but I don't know if it will be enough because the slip won't be tight fitting. I'll check with the seamstress but if anyone comes across some miracle product, let me know!

But that is what fittings are for, especially your first fitting.  That is when you talk with your seamstress about all of your concerns and since they do it for a living will probably be able to suggest a bra or some sort of alterations that will help keep the "girls" in place and looking good.

  • If the slip doesn't fit snugly, then it won't offer much support. Whether or not sewn in cups will do the job depends on the dress, and how comfortable you are with going "braless" for the day.

If you feel that you want a low back/backless bra just in case, then pick any lingerie website, and do a search for low back/backless bras in your size. Find one that appears to dip lower than the back of your dress.
    For example:

You can always return the bra if you decide you don't want/need it.
