How many bridal stores can I go to in one day?

My mom is flying in from out of town to help me look for dresses. I was hoping to book appointments at a couple different stores in the area. Is it at all reasonable to have an appointment in the morning and one in the afternoon at different stores? I have heard that the process can be tiring/overwhelming and don't want wear out myself or my mom. So is a long leisurely lunch going to be enough time to relax between appointments or should I spread it out more?

  • Oh, you should call them first and find out how many dresses you can try on. How long will your mother stay with you? If you get enough time, i suggest that you should just make one appointment for one day. Becuase you may try 20+ gowns to find a perfect one to fit you. That's a long way to go. Don't make yourself crazy about it :-)
  • What day of the week are you going? Most of the shops I've been to are open for only 3-4 hours on a weekend. With travel time, I've only done 2 stores in one day, but most of the shops here are pretty far apart. More than that and it might be too overwhelming, especially with this hot weather!

You'll def want time to browse, try on a first round of dresses and maybe even try on some again if you love them enough - and especially if they don't let you take pictures. Def keep track of the ones you really like. The shop should at least be able to tell you the designer...and hopefully the style number too,

I was at a bridal shop for 20mins (waste of time..they were so rude)  and then I was at an appointment for 3 hrs.  Its all on how you want your dress discovery to go!  Just relax and enjoy--its fun-if you like clothes and playing dress up--within reason.  It was not tiring at all for my mom..she just sat there.  Make your first app. as early as possible then plan for 2.5 hr increments and make sure you eat!  Also, try your hardest to atleast know what your don't want...it helps.

    Good luck!
  • I did three one day when I went with my friend (one local, one DB, and one AA). When I went with my mom we did five in one day, but two of those were total washes from the moment we walked in, I didn't even try anything on.

So, I think you can do three, but I'd start early, have one appointment, then eat lunch. Then do your next two. I didn't have a problem taking pictures at AA or DB, but most local places are not fans. I actually managed to take pictures everywhere we went, but I know that's kind of unusual.

I do agree with PP that things can start to blur, especially if you don't have any sort of picture to go by.

I did two in one day and that was a bit much. I was the first appointment in a Davids Bridal for 3hours (they opened 15minutes late, 30minutes of them trying to sell me other stuff, plus a 10+minute wait between dresses). Had a 3 hour break. Then in a small local shop for about an hour, in and out of one dress after another. I think I tried on about the same amount of dresses in each store. I probably could have done another appointment like the local shop, but I would have been super drained if I had another DB experience. I went to Alfred Angelo the next day and the dresses started to blur toward the end.

  • I did 4 in one day. AA and Db which were both waste of times, then I went to 2 bridal salons near those stores which was about 15 mins away. Found my dress at the 4th one, but waited to get it!

  • Thanks ladies! I called some stores to get a little more detail on their appointments. I set up one for the morning (a 1 hour appointment) and another for mid-afternoon. My mom is in town for a week so we can still try to go to other stores or go back if we need.

  • I was in a similar situation. I recently moved to Tennessee and my mom is in California. I was visiting for a whole week but we did 3 stores in one day. Even with a lunch between #1 & #2 and coffee break between #2 & #3, we were all tired by the end of the day. The dresses started to blur. Since your mom is there for a week, use the whole week. I ended up finding my dress in Tennessee.

  • I originally planned on going to two places on the same day BUT I found my dress at the first place and cancelled the second. I tell you its all about having a great consultant... mine was in the biz for 20+ yrs and knew exactly was would fit my body type but she also let me form my own opinions each and every dress. Even when I thought I found "the one" she had me try one more to make sure I had that feeling :)
