charitable donations in lieu of favors

Hi again sorry,

Just curious about charitable donations in lieu of favors.  I've heard that you can still donate to a charity but sometimes get something to give away.  I looked at Susan G. Komen for the cure as my MOH does a lot with them, and I have want to donate to something with Breast Cancer cures, but only 25% of the purchase of the rubber bracelets goes to SGK even on their own website.

Just curious what you are doing/did, and how you went about doing it?  Could we maybe buy the rubber bracelets or something of that nature, then make an additional donation on top of that for what we can afford?

TY!

I would do an inexpensive busniess card saying "Thank you for coming to our wedding. a donation to X charity has been given in your name. "

No one cares about favors, go with Firedancer's idea. That's what I intend upon doing. I first saw it at a wedding last year and really liked the idea.

If you want to do something, I've seen cookies as favors with an attached dontation card. Like a cookie in the shape of a dog if you did a donation to a local animal shelter.

I was thinking of doing this for the american diabetes association... FI's best man and brother has diabetes... so it's very close to our hearts!  how much is typically donated in this case...? does anyone know?

    This is what I did:

The roses had nothing to do with the charity... just went with the wedding theme.

I am not sure I would do the bracelets especially b/c most of the money doesn't go to the charity. I would just find something else.

In terms of how much to donate... you do what you can. What we figured was: if we were just going to do favors it would prob be around $5/ person. So the roses were like $2 so then we did $3/person to donate and then we threw in a little extra (what we could afford) to make it something we felt comfortable with.

You might also check wth the charity as they may even print the cards for you. Some do Some don't. Tell them what you would like to do and ask them for options. They may give you a little something to give out.
