This is more of a vent than anything. Let me start off by saying that I am 5'6" so by no means "short" and I plan on wearing 2-3 inch heels at the wedding.
They measured my HH to be 54.5" in flats, and said the dress was cut long, and was standard at 59" for that measurement. They told me I'd have an extra 3" worth of fabric they'd have to hem, even in heels, and with this designer, you could order in petit length which was just 3" shorter in the front. Thinking it was strange I would be a petite, I thought to myself, well I'm sure they know what they're doing and went along with it.
Five months later my dress comes in, I try it on in bare feet and it doesn't even hit the ground!! They said, oh, you're wearing flats? I told them absolutely not, and they thought the designer cut 5" off the dress rather than 3. That was not the case. It turns out the HH measurement of the original dress was 58.5" not 59, and three inches shorter made it 55.5" AND there's an inch leeway that the manufacturer has when they cut it, and mine was cut on the very short side coming in at my actual flat footed measurement of 54.5"
Luckily my bridal salon is super great and they are replacing the entire front panel of the dress to make it longer (My dress has two layers, lace over a light gold and they are replacing the underneath light gold part) but now I'm super anxious about how it will look.
I cant believe anyone in their right mind would order me a petit dress. I should have gone with my gut and said no in the first place.
