Is it too early to look at dresses?

I'm getting married July 2011. I found a dress I love online and I want to go try it on. Will sales ladies think I'm nuts??

OH - and here's the dress :)

Re: Is it too early to look at dresses?

  • It is never too early to look at dresses!!! I wanted to go to bridal mart but the dresses can sometimes take 5 months to come in so start as early as you can. By the way, the dress is beautiful!!

I disagree wtih this. You have a year and a half - that's way too much time to second-guess yourself and find something you like better. I say more than a year out is too early.

  • I ended up looking at dresses 1.5 years out.. but we also thought our wedding was going to be a bit sooner at that point.  If you want to go look at dresses, go for it, but keep in mind that if you do pick a dress now, you absolutely have to stop looking after that.  Or you will become a two dress bride, as others here can attest to.  There are other dresses I would love, love love to try on, but I love my dress, and I know its not in the budget to get another one.
  • I bought my dress 10 months before our wedding. I was "Just Looking" but found the most beautiful dress and everyone loved it as much as I did. So I got it. They said it would take up to 5 months to come in, and it took only 3 weeks! If the dress is something will have in stock later, then there is no harm in waiting a while. After spending so much you will second guess yourself a little. Another thing to consider, is if you change your mind or your style often, definitely wait.

  • No harm in trying it on, though the sales lady may assume you won't be buying anything that day, since it is pretty far ahead of time.

I think it's a little early to actually purchase the dress, your style and opinion can change a lot in a year and a half.
  • I bought my dress 1.2 years out and have not regretted it. There's no harm in looking around and seeing what you like and what looks best. Just remember, if you decide to buy now STOP looking. You'll drive yourself crazy and end up with 3 dresses if you don't, lol.

  • It isnt too early to look at dresses. You might find that the one you "love" in a magazine or online doesnt hang how you thought it would.

I bought my dress a year out, I took my mom, and future mother in law to look at dresses. Tried on the first one that I liked, and when I walked out to show them, they were both teary eyed, and so was I. I KNEW it was the one. Still love the dress and can't wait to wear it in 3 months.
  • I don't think it is too early to look, but def too early to buy!
  • I only went in to look 14.5 months before my wedding (actually before my engagement...strange I know but we had been talking about it for over a year and little did I know, he already had the ring and proposal date set...my sister knew and pushed me to try on dresses) .  I only went to look that day but as I said, my sister pushed me to try on dresses and I caved and it turns out the first one I tried on I fell in love with!  So I decided to buy that dress that day after trying on several others in the store and going to a second store.  So be careful trying on dresses if you are not ready to buy, you might fall in love with one you try on and want to buy it or risk losing the perfect dress.
