Ity-bity dress-stress--you, too?

After my hubby-to-be and I got engaged the wedding dress was the first thing, and the easiest thing I had found--or so I thought! We wanted a small, intimate wedding and I bought a very inexpensive but good looking gown. Fast forward to the present and our guest list has exceeded 220 and his parents are pushing for a very large, expensive, circus of a wedding (I love them, I do; they're footing the bill so arguments are a no-no) and I;m starting to feel self-concious about my dress choice...

Had a dream last night that my dress was burned and I had to sew it inot a new dress on the spot, and I liked it better. Advice, ladies?

  • This dress was a sample so I got it on sale for $400, I think whats getting me is the strange cape-like train in the back--how would I even get a proper bustle? If I keep it I may remove the super-bride cape.

  • I think that dress is gorgeous! I think whether it is still appropriate or not depends on the formality of the affair. Unless your wedding is black tie, I think it will still work. If you think it's not dressy enough use accessories to dress it up.

  • There is a simple elegance to that dress that makes it look like a million bucks, even if you got it on the sale rack. The dress is gorgeous, it looks great on you, and it doesn't look cheap. Try not to second guess yourself!

Oh and by the way, don't be surprised if you have more "wedding nightmares". I had some doozies when I was planning too!

Can you perhaps get it altered in such a way that it can be removed for the reception?

Oh my goodness, yes. I had many, many wedding-mares, including one where all the men forgot we were getting married and failed to show up. We found them playing video games and eating pizza in black sweat suits

As far as the "Super Bride" cape, if you truly hate it then by all means remove it. But if you like it and are just worried about the bustle, talk to a reputable seamstress before making any decsions. Or just embrace it and put a "SB" emblem on the front of the dress
  • I think the dress is sooo elegant. I love the back. I think it makes it dramatic enough for a large wedding. I think changing the back would change the whole look and feel of the dress. I love it!!!!

  • I agree about the back. If you hate it, have it removed, but I think it adds a lot to the formality of the dress. I might be biased, I've always wanted a Watteau train but didn't wind up getting one :-) It would be perfect if you could make it removeable, I don't think that type of train would bustle very well. I do absolutely love your dress though - it doesn't look inexpensive at all..

  • I think that dress is perfect. It fits your shape well. Like pp's said, just dress it up with fun accessories.
  • Keep the dress, its gorgeous!
  • I LOVEEEEEEE the back of your dress actually! I think it is super elegant but in a fun airy way not stuffy like a cape.

  • lol that's right, i've had my share of wedding nightmares...but the last one wasn't a nightmare...i dreamt i was friends with the guy who made my dress, and it was one of the participants of project runway....needless to say i watch project runway everyday, so that may have something to do with it...anyhow...I agree the dress looks beautiful!

I have a similar issue with my dress, I'm just having the cape thing removed all together because I didn't like how much it hides the back of the dress! Here's a picture of the back:

  • That dress it gorgeous! I think I'm going to see if there is a way to make it removable for the reception and keep the train for the ceremony. But who knows, I may detach it all together and get a stole instead.

Thanks for all your supportive posts ladies; I feel much better about my dress!

  • I lovvveeee your dress i dont think you should changed it if you really love it........ i think the cape thing is really nice if you want to keep it you can have you hair up with an accessory in your hair like the picture that brunettepride00 has. Or if you dont want the cape thing at all you can wear a birdcage veil which are really nice and it wont cover up your dress...but good luck!!!!!!
  • I LOVE the drama in the superbride cape. :) I think it'll fit the new tone of your wedding just fine!
  • Its beautiful and glamorous, keep it :-)
