First shop?

So today was the first time i tried on wedding dresses! Had the most amazing day! I went to 2 boutiques and tried on maybe.. 15 dresses. I found my ultimate dress!! i am very in love with it, and my mother and bridesmaids loved it to! But i couldnt commit! What if there is still something better out there!!!
I was wondering how many of you bought a dress on your frist day, did you look elsewhere? What finally made you commit to the dress!?

Re: First shop?

  • If you've got time to check out a few more stores, it might be worth having a comparison.  Just keep it in comparison and be decisive about whether another dress you might like beats out the one you found at the first store, or not.  You'll know it's the right one if your thoughts keep going back to the dress from the first store!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I found my dress at the first place we went, about 5 dresses in.

Just stop looking once you find 'the one'
  • I found my dress on the first day...but I did do a second day of shopping just to make sure.  I knew it was the dress after I realized I was comparing every single one on the second day to it  =]

  • I picked one at the first shop I went to. I probably tried on about 6 or 7 dresses. I know if I shopped around I could find others I would love too. But, truly I'd go crazy with too many choices! I could find a million pretty gowns out there, so I decided it was best to just go with it. Sure I'm curious about other gowns, but at the end of the day, this one is beyond beautiful, and very special. What more do I need?

  • I only went to one shop and tried on maybe 10 dresses, most of them to satisfy my BMs.  I knew my dress was "it" from the first picture and I was right.

A lot of the PP were able to be much more decisive than me. If you're more like me and have trouble making a decision it might not be so cut and dry. Luckily for me, there are only two bridal shops here in Anchorage: David's Bridal and Anderson's Bridal. I went to both stores twice. First I went to David's Bridal, not sure how many dresses I tried on, probably about 7 and had two I loved. Then I went to Anderson's Bridal and tried on probably like 12 dresses and had another two I loved there. Since most of my bridal party is out of town and was missing out on the shopping I sent out pictures to start getting opinions. I went back to David's Bridal and narrowed those favorites down to one, and from the pictures was able to nix one of the ones from Anderson's. Eventually I realized the one from David's was a little too plain and that the embellishment on the one at Anderson's was more what I wanted, the shape was also amazing. For me there was a lot of looking at the pictures, and before I finally bought the one at Anderson's I had to try it on one more time.

  • I purchased the first dress I tried on. I literally never put on another dress. It was a $2000 Martina Liana gown that was at a Sample Sale for $799. It was too perfect to walk away from. When you find one you love that looks nice on you, stop looking. There will always be more dresses out there. You have to make the decision to love YOUR dress.
  • I found my dress on the first day, third dress I tried on. I bought it the next day when my mom could see it.

I bought the second dress I tried on! I went to a sample sale for day 1 of shopping, I did try several on but kept going back to the second one I tried. I'm normally terrible at making decisions, but when the sales person put a veil on etc., that was it. The dress is gorgeous and I didn't want to wait and risk loosing the dress. I do wonder if I made a decision too rash, but I am sure there are several gowns that would look amazing so it was probably good not to give myself too many options.
If you are in love with it, then go for it! I am sure you can find others you like, but why risk not finding one you like as much.
  • Take your time and fallow you heart and buy the dress that makes you happy. When you find "the one" stop shopping or you will constantly regret and second guess your choice.
if that "ultimate dress" made you feel as special and beautiful as your fiance makes you feel, well then that's the dress for you and you just know cause that's how your fiance makes you feel. There will never be a better one.

Enjoy the experience its suppose to be relaxing and fun. That helps you in your decision making.

I bought the first dress I tried on and I only tried on one other. Sometimes you just know.

  • Thank you so much everyone! This has really helped me! I am going back to see the dress again with my father and mother! I have a really good feeling!!
  • I also found my dress at the first shop I went to. I did try on a bunch of other dresses too, just for comparison. But I kept going back to the one I'd originally thought was "it."

  • My dress is the very first dress I tried on at the very first place! I tried on about 5 others at the shop but nothing could compare to the first dress. I bought it a week later because I couldn't stop thinking about it. When you know you know. Also, trying on dresses was very emotional and I didn't want to go to a lot of stores trying on dress after dress. Trust your instinct.
  • I chose the first dress I tried on. I wasn't in love with it at first. And figured it was the first dress, no way that could be it. Right? There was another dress I was starting to love.

I tried on maybe 8 more dresses at that boutique and went to DB, where I hated the quality and nothing was right. Because I was comparing it to the other dress I liked.

Went home fustrated, and one of my BMs emailed me all the photos she took...and it was the first dress that I liked best in the pictures. It was comfortable, different from what I thought I wanted...but somehow just right.

Went to a 3rd salon, tried on a few other dresses...and then that first one. Had my mom with me, and she knew instantly...that was it!
  • I bought mine off the rack the first day I went shopping- maybe tried on 6 dresses total and went back to the same dress twice. That second time sealed the deal and I left the store with it! Sometimes it is really just that simple. I go in for my first fitting Thursday, lol.
