Toms Ballet Flats for Bridal Party, Yes or No?

Hello,
I am having a huge debate with my family over the fact that I love TOMS and I want my bridesmaids to wear the TOMS ballet flats with their dresses. The debate is that they think it is too casual with a organza material dress. Anyone have any advice? Are they tacky with that material and I should switch shoes or is my family making a big deal over something that I really want at the wedding.

Thanks!

This is the dress in the pool color.

These are the TOMS in white but they are more light gray.

I think they are WAYYYY to casual. They honestly look like something that should be paired with a pair of shorts and a tshirt, in my opinion.

[QUOTE]I'm thinking of wearing TOMS to my reception only, but my wedding dress is long and so it'll mainly be for comfort. Why is it so important to you that your bridesmaids wear TOMS? Is it any other reason than that you love them (appearance-wise)? I'm not asking to be snarky, I really do want to know. I personally wouldn't wear them with such a nice short dress because I think it clashes.

I didn't realize that they were too casual and clashed with the dresses. My fiancé and I are not very formal people but I am realizing that getting married is a formal occasion.
Thanks for your input. I am telling my girls to wear the shoes at the reception but to be a little more formal at the ceremony.
  • Sorry but I wouldn't wear TOMS even if someone bought them for me.

  • 1. I think shoes are personal and you should just let your BMs choose their own shoes. I hate wearing flats with a formal dress, and only wear them with sundresses, really.

    2. I hope you don't plan on purchasing the shoes from that site, because it is a knock off site. If you ever even receive the shoes, they will probably look terrible and be very uncomfortable for your bridal party.

Save the expense of buying the shoes and let them wear their own!

You shouldn't be telling them what to wear at the reception regardless, as their job ends with the ceremony. Just let them wear what THEY find comfortable and attractive.

  • I would HATE to be stuck in a pair of toms as a BM. HATE. I don't own a pair, I don't plan to own a pair, and I would hate to wear such a casual shoe while in a dress.. talk about taking away the feeling of being "pretty"
And the dress is short!! I would feel like my legs look HUGE in a short dress with tennis shoes on. ew.
  • I find Toms horribly ugly, and they are very unsupportive to the foot.  Please don't make your bridesmaids wear shoes that they may not be comfortable in.
  • I support what Tom's shoes does, give a pair to a person in need when you purchase a pair, it's a nice sentiment. If this is why you want to buy your BM's Tom's then go for it, it's a good cause, but Id listen to the advice of the other ladies, not many people like wearing flats as formal wear and make sure to buy them from an authorized site so you know for sure the other pair of shoes actually goes to the person in need, and not a fake site.
  • I personally would not want to wear flats with a dress that short and formal. I like the added height and the that my legs look elongated in heels. There are comfy heels out there that can be worn for a long time and danced in. That being said, I think flats are ok with a dress like that if they are formal enough and no, Toms are not formal enough. The material is too casual and also the "Toms" logo on the back is, in my opinion, tacky with something formal.
