Hair and Make Up.... Is one stylist enough???

So I have started building a relationship with a salon and stylist in my area.  I did the research to find out what it would cost for me and my 4 bridesmaids to have our hair and make up done with me getting a demo a few months ahead of time.  I am thrilled with the salon and the stylists they have.  I sent a message to my girls and they are excited about it too.  I told them hair and make up is optional, because I know some of them are on a budget.

Anyways, this was the plan until my FMIL asked me if I wanted her stylist, from her area, to come up to us on my wedding day and do everyone's hair and makeup.  She highly recommends her and I'm sure she will do a lovely job.  She even offered to do a demo for me ahead of time.  My concern is that with 4 bridesmaids, 1 FMIL and 1 bride (me).  It will just be too rushed on the morning of the wedding.  I haven't said yes or no to the offer, what do you think I should do?  Also, my FMIL offered to pay for all hair and makeup, which would definateltly take the burden of my budget consious BMs.

  • What time is your wedding? We are having one for me, 4 BM, and 4 kids who are in the wedding (so 9 total), but my wedding is not until 6:30 PM so we don't need to have our hair done until 3.  We starting around 11 at my hotel.
  • First, I would confirm with everyone whether they want their hair done, makeup done, or both, and confirm that your FMIL would indeed pay for it.  Then I'd ask the stylists/makeup artists how much time it would take them for each girl's hair and makeup.

Either way, I think 1 person doing everything is going to be too much if all of them want hair/makeup - even if she can get everything done, some people are going to have to start REALLY early since I doubt someone could get their hair/makeup finished any earlier than 1.5 hours.  I wouldn't enjoy being the first BM to go, and then having to sit for 4 hours and wait for the rest of the girls.

I'd also rec. having a trial either way, since I ended up hiring a different makeup artist after I wasn't super impressed with my makeup trial.

  • Oh goodness! Just one. I'm thinking maybe five or six for hair and two for make-up. Then again- We have a large group getting ready. Me, my five BM, my mother, his mother, and his step-mother. I guess it just depends on how many people you have.  Then again- I'm claiming one of the hair and makeup people for myself. Being the bride- when else in your life do you get to be the princess. :)
