What is the latest I can start my dress search?

So my wedding is on January 3rd of next year... I want to start searching for dresses exactly 8 months before the wedding ( in may ) Opinions??? Is this too late?

I think it depends on a lot of things. Depending on the dress you choose and the place you order it from, delivery times are going to vary and then so will alterations. Also, are you confident you will find a dress quickly?  I started shopping very early for dresses b/c I will take forever to pick a simple pair of pants when I go shopping, so I figured I better start the process early. It went faster than I thought, and I wound up having my dress a year in advance. I think the dress timeline thing is very individualized.

Ask the bridal shops! We only had a 6 month engagement and most bridal shops were concerned with the amount of time for the dress to come in. It was a Maggie Sottero and only took 4 months to come in.

8 months is a good timeline in my experience. However, I would reccomend you have your dress ORDERED 8 months before your wedding, which means you might need to start looking around and shopping about 9 months before

Depends on where you're shopping. I bought my gown off the rack 3 weeks before the big day.  :P 

Every place is different.. I would make a list f the places you plan to check out and then CALL them now to ask how long it takes for gowns to come in.. then you know when you should start your search.
