non-white dress advice

Hi Brides!
Do any of you have non-white bridal gowns?  I bought a dress that I LOVE - BHLDN, Rosewater Parfait.  It is rose colored or maybe taupe.  The dress presents some unique challenges - not only is it not white, but it also is sheer from just above the knee, down.

My problem is that I'm having a hard time accessorizing.  I am thinking of a belt, a veil and maybe a trumpet slip.  I was considering dyeing the veil and slip to match the dress, but now I am wondering if maybe I can keep all the accessories white.

I would love feedback and I would love to see pictures of other non-white dresses and how they were accessorized.

Thanks!

  • I would dye the veil and slip. I don't know why, but I think the white would look odd. Maybe even cheap. Also, unless that bow on the picture is seperate, I wouldn't also add a belt.

I wouldn't do white either. Just don't think it would look right. Do you really want a veil? I have seen pretty flower clips  in this color, and I think a rose or ivory colored pearl necklace and earring would be lovely. I wouldn't do a belt without removing the bow. If you choose to do a neutral veil, I vote for ivory over white.

  • Pretty dress! Yes, dye the slip and veil. If you wear a veil, I could see a full length one attached low on the back of your head, under a bun if you're doing that. I love the belt that is on there. If you add a belt, I think it should be low-key, such as a thin gold or silver one to match your jewelry. My dress was pink, very unheard of a generation ago.
  • There are specialty places that make accessories (like veils) in other colors. You just need to do a google search to find them.

  • Hi, I'm also not wearing white. The dress I found is Ivory. I had a lot of the same questions as you and all these posts really helped. So, based on what i've read..the shoes really need to be ivory to match the dress?

Also, with an ivory dress, can i still carry white flowers or no? What's the opinion on that?

Bridal accessories come in ivory a lot of times, because ivory is a very popular color. It looks white on most skin tones, and it is more flattering on a lot of people. I think you could still carry white flowers. I mean, ivory is a shade of white, and it almost seems too picky to care about a shade of white. Although, my FI and I did have an argument about what shade of white to paint our walls a week ago, so, I totally get it.

  • Unfortunately, I could not see the dress, but I'm sure it's beautiful.

I wore a floor-length, dusk-colored dress (not a "bridal" gown) for my wedding.  I accessorized minimally, without a veil.  My shoes provided the "pop" -- custom-made, floral painted snakeskin pumps.

  • Thanks everyone!  I appreciate the feedback.  My friends told me the same thing - dye the veil and slip.  I did attempt to dye tulle and was successful and I have seen a couple of posts about it and a you tube video, so there has definitely been success with it.  I just hope I can get it the right shade.

    I'll give it a try!
