To bustle or not?

This is the back of my wedding dress. My alteration appointment is in 2 months and I'm trying to decide if a bustle would destroy the back. It has alot of beading and lace and I like the way it lays without anything done to the back. Could I get away with not having one?

  • I don't have a picture of my bustle - I just had mine done - my dress also has a lot of lace and beading on the train. I did an under bustle and they made it with ribbons on the underside of the train. I'm afraid of people stepping on it at the reception.

Sorry I don't have a picture of it. Maybe you can ask the alterations person about it - I believe they called it an underbustle - I'm going back on Friday for my last fitting!

  • I also did a one-point bustle, and the back of my dress looked nearly identical to Duds'.   I think you will definitely want a bustle for the reception -- too many people to step on your train, chair legs, dancing....it's a mess without a bustle.

You'll get plenty of pictures without the bustle where you'll be able to see the full affect of the back of the dress.

  • I am doing a one point bustle as well.  It's kind of hidden under the sash and I like it that way.  The one point is actually two hooks and two loops close together, one to reinforce the other.
