My weekend dress freak out.

I was watching "Say Yes to the Dress" over the weekend (yes, guilty pleasure) and my FI walked by and commented on a fluffy ballgown that a girl was trying on saying "who would want to look like a freaking ballerina on their wedding day?!" Not knowing this....

Is my dress. It's not HUGE but I would consider it a ballgown and it is mostly tulle (ballerina). Someone else on the website where it is from commented that it is lined and she wore it without any crinoline. I am in love with this dress and my heart was crushed. I have a friend that told me it was just a comment and not to over-think it. I am thinking maybe I will try and see if I can pull it off without the crinoline? What is it really for anyways? There is over 100 yards of tulle on this dress...I don't feel like it needs more pouf. Should I just walk around and make sure the dress doesn't trip me, or should I just sum it up to a thoughtless comment to a (lets face it less than pretty dress on the show)???   Undecided

Re: My weekend dress freak out.

  • The same thing happened to me!!! He pointed to MY dress (of all the ads in there!) in a magazine I was flipping through and said that he didn't like it.
I calmly asked him what kind of dress he would like me to wear, and he described a dress and I kept that in my head.

Flash forward to our wedding day he said he couldn't believe how great I looked and he couldn't believe he thought that it wasn't a great dress. I mean, yeah, he was probably sucking up a little bit, but after the initial shock that day, I got over it.

Since then, when I see a dress on facebook that is similar to the one he described that he would like I will say 'now can you imagine me wearing that on our wedding day??' And he's like, yeah, the other one fit you so much more.

  • I would listen to your friend and ignore his passing comment.  You have to remember that he was looking at some random girl in a dress that wasn't even your dress on the tv.  It will be completely different when it is you in your dress.

But if you are really concerned you can try it without the crinoline but be prepared that you may need to either get taller shoes or get your dress hemmed because removing the crinoline will cause your dress to get longer.

IMO, I think your dress is gorgeous as is and is in no way too big or pouffy or ballerina looking in anyway.

  • Honestly, you could walk down the aisle in a white blinged out trash bag and your fiance would think you are the most beatiful woman in the world.

He's looking at a dress on television on a complete stranger. Once he sees you start to walk down the aisle in the gorgeous gown the only thing he is going to think about is how lucky he is to marry you.

  • Men know nothing. I wouldn't worry. And what's the worse that happens? He doesn't like your dress? It's not like he'll run away if he sees you walking down the aisle in a dress he doesn't like.
  • Maybe it was that the dress made the girl look icky icky ballerina? Dresses that look amazing on one girl will look FABULOUS on another, and vice versa...but yeah, don't stress too much. Try it w/o the crinoline and see...but he will be looking at the woman he loves, not the dress.

  • Don't stress!  He'll think you're beautiful no matter what you put on.

And you have to be comfortable in what you're wearing, not the groom.  Dresses flatter everybody differently!

  • I really wouldn't worry about it. It wasn't YOU in YOUR dress. I'm sure he'll love it no matter what :)
