Comfortable heels?

I'm trying to find comfortable 3"heels, in either ivory to go with my dress, or possibly a contrasting color. Do they make a heel that I can actually wear comfortably from the ceremony through dancing at the reception?

Re: Comfortable heels?

  • I think it depends on how comfortable you are in general wearing heels.  If you are a sneaker or flip flop person normally, then wearing a 3 inch heel for 4-7 hours probably isn't going to be super fun for you.

If you are a heel person normally, there are plenty of comfy heels out there.  My suggestion is, don't let this be a cost cutting area. Buy a decent pair of shoes.  This is one area that I firmly agree with "you get what you pay for".   If you buy a 20 dollar pair of shoes, unless you get very lucky, the fit and comfort will be less then desirable.

I am a flip flop/sneaker person so I have a hard time finding heels that I will be comfortable in for more than 30 minutes.  So far the best two pairs I own are Cole Haan and Giani Bernini (GB I found at Macy's).  Both have a lot of cushion in the soles and a thicker heel to provide more stability.

  • I second wedges, I've never had a pair of wedges be as uncomfortable as heels after wearing them all day. Also, don't feel like you have to wear heels/wedges. It's completely fine to wear flats :)
  • I wear heels just about everyday, so any 3" heel is comfortable to me.  My wedding shoes are Badgley Mishcka and are 3", they are the most comfortable heels Ive ever worn.  But they are a lil more pricey.  I have worn a couple pairs of Nina shoes for other weddings, and Ive been able to go all day in them.  When you get them make sure you wear them around the house to get them broke in so they arent so stiff, and get those pads that go in the shoe on the ball of your foot, they work wonders.
  • A shoe with a thicker heel, more padded footbed, and wider space for your toes (as opposed to a pointy toe shoe) will probably be more comfortable for you.  You don't have to wear the heels the entire day, either!  Lots of brides slip into something else like flip flops or ballet flats after the ceremony and pictures so you could bring a second pair of shoes and plan on swapping them out.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I totally agreed with the other posts about a good quality shoes (cheap ones are harder to walk in) and a good wedge is way easier to move around in than a spike or stilleto heel. I just found a pair of "semi-wedges" from touch ups that are called candy. They're clear and I know some ladies don't like those but they'll match my dress perfect. They have 2.5"-3" heel so they're not too high. Good luck :)

The most comfortable heels I've ever worn (and I love heels!) were from Naturilizer.  They were a strappy black heel and I could wear them with anything.  I pretty much wore them until they fell apart!  Another option is to wear a pair of those gel insoles inside your heels.  Either way, I would definitely wear them for an hour or so every night before the wedding, for at least a week to "break them in".  Good luck and let us know what you find.
  • I can't wear any type of heel at all. I fount Michael Angelo - Style Diana to be really comfortable! Try something like the other say, maybe wedges or something with a wider hill :)

  • Yes, wedges!  I got these for my wedding:

Granted I haven't worn them for an extended period of time yet, just arounf the house - but thus far they're much more comfy than I would have thought.  I got them a half size bigger than I normally would because I plan on putting some of those cushiony things in that go by the ball of your foot - I've found that any time my feet hurt from wearing heels, that's the part where they hurt the most.

    Good luck!
  • Thank you everyone! I will probably end up wearing heels for the ceremony, then changing into flats for the reception.
