When to buy slip

I just ordered my wedding dress (Alfed Angelo style 2083).  It's a fit-and-flair dress and I want a slip under it to make the skirt look more full.  I tried it on in the store with one of their slips but I hated the slip (it was a drawstring "one size fits all" and wasn't comfortable).  The slip made the dress look really nice though; it was a not-very-full A-line slip and because the dress is fit-and-flair it squished the slip at the top and made it stick out more at the bottom.

I've read reviews that David's Bridal slips tend to fit well but I don't know how I should go about buying them.  They sell two slips that could possibly work, a "medium fullness" A-line slip (which looks a lot more full than the one I tried on) and a mermaid slip (which is tight to the knees; my dress is only tight through the hips).  Should I bring my AA gown into the David's store to try on slips, or should I just buy both slips and try them under the gown at home?  I'm worried because David's does not have the best return policy and I don't want to wind up with two $100 slips that don't work.

Re: When to buy slip

  • If this was me I'd call DB and ask if you can try on the slips with your dress, if they said no then I would e buy both slips and sell the other one on EBAY or on here.

  • I agree with PP.  I can tell you that I bought my dress from DB, and it's a trumpet shape.  I bought the medium A line 2 tier slip to go underneath my dress (style 603) and it fills it out very nicely.  Sizing was similiar to my bridal gown, if it helps (my dress and slip are a 12 and I usually wear a 8).  If you have the budget to buy both, then I would and sell the one that doesn't fit right.

  • Do you have a picture of your dress?   I love my David's slip.  Very comfortable, not too expensive, and gives my dress awesome shape.

Call and ask if you can come in and try one on with your dress because you are having a hard time finding one.
  • eBay also has some very affordable slips and petticoats. I've purchased 2, am wearing 1 and selling the other. About $25 each.
  • This is my dress without the slip:

  • Very pretty! Long story short, I started with a DB dress and bought a fit and flare slip to go with it. Couldn't tell you which one, just bought the one they put me in.

I've since then purchased a different dress, a Mori lee mermaid and I've still kept the DB slip to go underneath and it makes the mermaid perfect! The DB slip is super comfy.

  • Going and looking at them online, there's only one it could be and it's this one for sure!!

I think it'd go good with your gown too! I don't think it is as tight and low as it looks in this picture.. your other option looks a little fuller than I think you want and since your gown is a "fit-and-flare" I think this one might be better for you. If you feel comforable taking your non-DB dress into a DB store, go for it! Ha, I probably would!

  • I've been told that DB does allow you to bring in your dress to  try a slip and accessories on with it. Just call ahead of time and let them know your intentions.
