Re: Bolero dilemma

  • edited July 2012
I love the second-to-last one (ivory front open lace bolero) because the way it's styled in the pic, almost makes it look like part of the dress, the way she has it tucked into her sash, which is something you could probably do. I think it's really pretty. I think if you did something like that, it may not be too much for the dress.

My only question would be how the back looks. It may have a lot going on. You will have the tie from the corset, as well as the tie from the sash hanging down in the back. You'd need to make sure the bolero was smooth enough going over the tie from the corset in the back.

  • I actually think all the boleros are beautiful.  I wonder what all their return policies are?  I didn't look that closely at the seller's details... are they custom?  I think you'd almost have to try them on with the dress to see which works best.  Are there any types of boleros in the store that you can get an idea with, and then go to etsy to get the one you really like?  I like the last one the best (personally) because I am actually having my aunt crochet the bodice of mine (and I'll add flowers/beading/whatever).  I love the look of the crochet/knit.
I think you'll be happy that you went with a cover-up if you are uncomfortable now in the dress.  2 weddings that I went to in the last year had brides in strapless dresses (that were cinched so tight their back fat really stuck out) and they hated any pics of them taken from the side or back. I almost wish that the seamstress that altered it would have suggested straps or a bolero or something for it to be more flattering (because I think the brides would have been happier).

I would go back to David's, try on your dress style, and try on their jackets! Then you have an idea of style and legth you prefer. I am extremely self conscious about my arms, so knew I would need sleeves or a jacket. I believe you can find a jacket (or maybe a wrap would work better for this one?) for anything! By the way...for all my apprehension (you can see why, my dress is posted on my profile with me in it, no jacket) - my very opinionated mother said I could go without the jacket! I don't think so - but ask someone you trust!!! We are our own worst critics. Maybe you don't really need a jacket :)

  • i think the second one will suit you best. it will not be too much. it is short. it can cover your overabundance of armpit fat and the lace will add beauty to you.
