Are you suprised by the variation ing dress prices?

I guess I shouldnt be supprised, but I am!  I am calling around to all the "local" bridal salons to find out thier prices for a particular dress.  I have come to find that they all differ by as much as $300!  And the place I tried on the gown told me they would sell me the sample for $1300, when they retailed it at $1500, ( which i didnt think was a deal for a sample!!!!!!) and other places are telling me they will order me a new dress for $1200. These are all not including alterations.  I cant believe it.  What percentage difference do you all feel is appropriate when buying the sample?  Just curiouos to see what deals you all have gotten.

  • If you can order a new dress from a shop, for less than you'd pay for the sample somewhere else, I'd just do that. If you can't, because of time or you want that dress even cheaper, like Pearl's Place (you can find it online, they're an authorized dealer) or maybe look on one of the pre-owned sites. It may be that this dress is popular or new and the stores aren't willing to part with their sample, yet, so they are quoting you a high price. I would think the percentage would be much less.

As far as prices go, I had a few dresses that were like that. I bought my dress from the shop that was about $300 cheaper than it was at the other shop.

  • I bought my dress for $999.00 (before tax) and another salon I went to was selling it for $1195.00.  I thought that was a pretty significant different for a dress in that price range.
  • I used to work at a dress store. And unfortunately many places mark up the gowns by 50% or more to cover their overhead, wages, etc. Other places mark it up wayyyy more.

Try to get the best deal you can get, and don't be afraid to ask for discounts. The worst they can say is no.

  • When I looked at samples, they tended to be about 50% off the regular price.

Keep in mind, tax makes a difference too...I looked at the same dress at two stores in different counties....the difference came out to a savings of 30.00 just in tax.....
