How do we both deal with gloves in a military wedding?

My fiance is a veteran of the Marine Corps and is wearing his uniform for the ceremony (mmmm dress blues...), which includes short white gloves.  Since wedding planning I have also been thinking of wearing gloves, pobably elbow length.

So my questions is, how do we deal with the gloves going on and off during/ after ceremony?  Do I take them off when I hand of my bouquet to the MOH?  Does he wear his during the ceremony or only during the escorting his mother down the aisle part?  I'm ok with putting mine back on after the ceremony with rings on top, but it's the logistics of how to handle them during the ceremony that I'm stumped.  Thoughts, ideas, experiences?

  • I've never seen the gloves worn with the blues for a wedding. Why not go without? Mine isn't wearing them. If you really want to wear your and him to wear his, I think it would just be too complicated.

True, I just don't want things to get too complicated at the altar.  We could always include them in some formal photos after the ceremony.
  • I used to manage a bridal salon, and when brides wanted to wear gloves we would suggest that they open the seam on the ring finger. That way you don't have to remove them, just slide that finger back for the exchange of the rings.

Just a suggestion- hope it helps!

  • My roommate got married to a man in the Navy and he didn't wear his gloves with his dress blues.  It also bears mentioning that it was 105 degrees that day and while I'm not normally for showing any more skin than necessary, all I really cared about was getting my hair off my neck and making sure my date had the darn sense to take off his suit coat before he passed out.
  • Jennylee is correct: you open the seam on the ring finger. My mom wore gloves, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
