Nylons?

As the mom of the bride, I am wearing a black all lace dress (to the knee) and black shoes... the wedding is Nov. 3, 2012.  I haven't worn nylons in years but do you think it would be okay to wear sheer black nylons or would it look outdated?

Re: Nylons?

  • Sorry didn't mean to post twice!
  • Sheer black nylons would be totally acceptable! Nylons and tights are back in!

     Agreed!

  • I disagree -- although black sheers have their place, they are really tricky to get right.  (Most people don't get them sheer enough, and they look bad.)  More important, I'm concerned that going with an all-black ensemble plus black stockings is going to make you look like you're going to a funeral.  Black at a wedding is not forbidden, you just have to be careful with it.  I say go bare-legged or with very sheer nude stockings, and then wear very bright jewelry to counteract all the black.
  • I'm anti any type of panty hose.

  • Nordstrom carries ulta ultra sheer pantyhose.  They are kind of wear them once and done.  My friend wore them and you could not tell she had on hose, just noticed how great her legs looked!
  • So, maybe a very sheer tan color would be better?  I was thinking for jewelry, some blingy rhinestone earrings, bracelet, etc.

Normally I'm all for black, but I do think you'd run the risk of looking too funereal with black lace AND black sheers.  I'd go for nude sheer hose instead, preferably as close to your skin color as possible, since I think it looks odd when ladies wear hose that makes their legs look several shades more "tan" than the rest of their skin.   Also, and I am hoping this goes without saying, please don't wear hose with open-toed shoes, that's the worst.

Agree!   and the Nordstrom pantyhose I was talking about has an open toe thingy so you CAN wear open toe shoes!
