Dress Shopping Question

Hello,
I am new to these boards. We are getting married in July 2011. When should I start dress shopping? How soon before my wedding date should I order the dress?
A few people told me to start looking now because if I look more towards the fall the fabrics will be heavier for a winter wedding.
Thanks!

Re: Dress Shopping Question

  • The fabrics won't be that much different, that being said, you can start whenever you want.  Just be sure to take into consideration you might change sizes a little bit so you might wait or make sure the dress can be altered.

Keep this in mind: once you find the dress, STOP looking.  You'll make it easier on yourself that way.
  • You should be able to find heavier and lighter fabrics no matter when you shop.  Unlike clothing shopping, wedding dresses are ordered pretty far in advance and a style may stay out in stores for a longer amount of time.

I think ordering times tend to be something like 4-8 months in advance.  Be absolutely sure about the dress before you order and if you plan on losing weight, wait to order.  You don't want to change your mind about the dress or need to buy a second one due to change in size.
  • Start shopping now!

  • Start whenever you want! I am getting married in September next year and started looking at dresses soon after I got engaged (back in April). I visited three shops and found the 'one'... its now on order and will be at the store in September this year.

I think it doesnt matter when you start looking; when you find the dress of your dreams you will know, even if it is a year in advance!
