VERA WANG to design for DAVID'S BRIDAL?!?!

Hi everyone! I'm new here--engaged April 16th to the most amazing man in the world!
In other news...has anyone else heard that Vera Wang is designing for David's Bridal now and that her dresses will be IN THE STORE by February of next year and will cost anywhere from $600-1500?!!?!? I went to David's about a month ago to try on dresses just to get an idea of what I would be looking for when I went on the "dress trip" to New Orleans. Well I ended up falling in love with one from their new line and bought it right away. I thought I was really happy with it....UNTIL I went in there the other day to look at BM dresses and the dang sales girl dropped the Vera bomb on me and now I don't know what to do!!!! Her dresses will be in the store to buy BEFORE my wedding next May!!!

I heard about that, and am really excited to see her line!

But if you fell in love with a dress, though, that's your dress. You shouldn't rethink that just because you've heard that Vera Wang is designing for DB. You haven't even seen the dresses yet. They could be horrible, or just not your style. And the fact that they won't be in stores until February, and will be in high demand, could mean that you wouldn't be able to get one by May anyway.

So stop looking at other gowns, and enjoy the one you've got. Have you got pictures you can share?

Whoa! That almost makes me want to wait to look for dresses! I too am getting married next May, but I'm a bit of a planning freak, and might not make waiting that long!

I agree with PP.  You love your dress, don't second guess it because a designer is going to be designing for DB.  No one knows what they will look like.  More importantly, I doubt you would be able to find the dress and get it altered in that time span.  Would you want to risk it? I know I wouldn't.  Don't think about it, and just kepp remembering that the day you found your dress, you knew you wanted to be married in it.  That's all that matters.  The what if game is a hard one to play when it comes to wedding dresses.  There's always going to be something else that you may or may not want to wear.

Sigh. Ok, y'all are right. I guess I'm being silly-- I just love Vera Wang but never planned on paying upwards of $4,000 on my dress, and now I that it's so "in reach" I'm struggling a little! Here is my current dress...(not me in it of course!)

Your dress is beautiful!  I'd stick with that dress.  Like PP said, we don't know what the VW dresses will look like, if you'll like the styles, materials, etc.  The timeline is too close to take a chance.  Plus, you have a dress you LOVE--don't throw that away to wear a dress by a particular designer.

ok do you love it because you love the designs or the name? Because once it is available to the masses, the name losses it's appeal and prestige. You love the design of your dress, keep your dress and save yourself the headache! Sew a VW patch in the back if it makes you feel better :)

Your dress is gorgeous!  I love the back soooo much, such great detail.

You madea great decision.  I'm sure your initial gut feeling of being in love with it, is a good feeling.  Rememeber it :-)

I agree with Rochelle.  To me, the best Vera Wang designs are the ones that cost the most money.  The dresses at the bottom of her price range are kind of plain and boring, IMHO.  I hope her DB dresses are more exciting than those, but either way, the dress you've already picked is great!

Many, many, MANY bride's have had experienced the same feeling -- second guessing if the dress was the right one.  I had several of those moments and was hit especially hard when DB came out with the new fall collection.  I fell completely in love with the dress you picked.  So at least you know there is one bride out there who has complete and total dress envy!  Everyone will tell you to stop looking at dresses, and I have to agree with them!  Who knows what the VW collection will look like?  Know that at this moment you have a kiiler gown!

I love your dress!  The back is so different!

I second-guessed myself, too.  I bought a Mori Lee dress that was the first (but not only!) dress I tried on.  I was in love with this dress!  However, I went to a different bridal store some time later looking for jewelry, and the lady at the store asked me who designed my dress.  When I told her, she got a weird look on her face and said "Oh, that's like the K-Mart brand of bridal gowns.  We don't even carry that at our store."  What a snob!  Needless to say, I immediately left.

I started thinking about the dress and if it was really what I wanted.  It was a lot cheaper than what I had budgeted.  But I realized that I loved THE DRESS, not necessarily the designer.  I feel amazing in it, and that's all that matters. :-)

Ok I second guessed my dress because I felt I needed to try on a ball gown. I finally gave in and tried on a ball gown and not only did it look horrible on me the sale associate told me I needed to lose weight. I told her no bride wants to hear that while trying to hold back tears and went home and asked my dress to forgive me for being stupid. Moral to the story if you love your dress and feel beautiful in it you should stop looking.
