My 1st trip to Davids Bridal

I have only been dress shopping in 1 other store, The Group. I don't think it's like most bridal salons as they have many sizes in 1 style and you pick out the style you like and then your size. The bridal consultant puts the dress in the dressing room for you and then lets you get into it and then she comes in and zips it up for you.

How does it work at Davids Bridal? Do they have dresses on racks that you can browse through?

Re: My 1st trip to Davids Bridal

  • David's Bridal sounds similar to The Group, the dresses are racked by size.  The consultant will put the dresses in the room and will bring you a longline bra and slip if it's needed.  They will unzip the dresses and then you can get into them.  She'll come in to zip it up when you're ready.

  • You can just walk in and browse through the dresses, but they frown upon this.  They really prefer that you make an appointment.

When I went, the consultant gave me a catalog of their dresses to go through and had me earmnark the ones I liked.  She then went and pulled the dresses I picked if they had it in a size close to mine.  She also brought a few what that were similar to what I liked if they didn't have I liked (like I loved this strapless with a full tulle ballgown skirt, so she brought me the same kind of skirt with a halter).  I was able to dress myself, but the consultant helped if I needed something zipped or lace (although MOH did a lot of this...the consultant was gone a lot, and I felt mroe comfortable with my MOH anyway).

Be aware that the consultants can be VERY pushy.  My appointment was in June I believe, and I still get calls asking me to come back in.  So if you're not totally sure about something, don't give in to sales pressure.  The dress WILL still be available.  Most of their dresses are not off-the-rack anymore.

Also, veils, shoes, accessories, undergarments, etc. can usually be purchased cheaper elsewhere, so keep that in mind too.

Oh yeah, and they have that "$100 or more off any dress for a limited time only" sale ALL THE TIME.  Don't worry if the sale is about to end, it will be back on in less than 2 months.

  • When I went to David's, they gave me a catalogue to thumb through. I dog-eared the dresses that I wanted to try, and the consultant brought them.  She pretty much left me alone after that; my little sister helped me put all of the dresses on and laced them/zipped them up.  I had a really good experience at Davids, and that's where I bought my dress.  But I definitely benefited from having someone with me, instead of having to rely on the consultant.

  • When I went, I was never given a catalog to pick and choose from.  My mom and I just went through the racks and picked out what I liked.  The consultant helped me from start to finish with helping me dress and she actually picked out the gown that I'm wearing on my wedding day.  It was a great experience.
