Wedding gowns for the... erm... "busty" bride??

Hello!  So I'm getting nervous about trying on wedding gowns. I heard somewhere that most gowns are made with a B-cup.  This is WAY too small for me.  I know things can be adjusted but I'm worried I won't be able to try anything on!  I'm not very curvy - I'm 5'4" and about 120-125lbs, but I wear a 32F (sorry for the overshare, but I need help!).  It's not so much the shape of the dress I'm worried about, it's the top.  Did anyone else out there have trouble or share my experience?  If so, do you have any helpful tips?  Thanks!

  • Sounds like I'm the same build as you. Don't worry about it, they smash those babies in :P
  • I'm in the same boat.
My dress fit like a dream with VERY little clevage and I don't look huge.  I wasn't sure I could get into a strapless dress or bra without pouring out the top.  But the other ladies are right that the consultants can help you find the right dress to give you the look you want.
Try on every style, you'll be surprised with what looks good on paper and on your body :)

  • I felt better with straps so I opted for a deep v-neck with straps.  It fit well andth boning allowed me to not need a strapless bra. Good luck.

  • I'm a 38G and had no problems dress shopping. Only the smallest boutique I went to didn't have a bra in my exact size but they had something close enough that worked.

  • I agree with PP.  Though i'm not AS chesty as you... i am a similar size/height and larger than 'standard'.  I had no problems shopping.  Not all strapless dresses are created equal!  There were some that gave me side lumps, and some that covered everything really well.  Halters and some other strap styles looked awful on me, and made the problem worse.
in the end i went with a strapless dress.  there is so much structure to wedding dresses that you'll be fine and the girls should be fine too =)

work with your consultant.  tell her you're worried about it, and would like to see what options you have.  try on a few of each style, and don't worry if you can't find anything right away.  there is a dress for everyone! =)
  • I found that a slight sweetheart - not true sweetheart (showed too much for my comfort) or straight across (unflattering effect) - was a good balance. I was worried about the same thing and am a similar size. Some were not so flattering, but it was mostly okay. Also, some designers can add material to the bodice. We do have options!  Good luck & have fun.
  • This is good to know. I'm a 30G and I have been afraid of trying on dresses and appearing too sexy. Good to know there are others who have figured it out.
