Dress to leave in

What are your thoughts about leaving the reception in your wedding dress vs. leaving in another shorter, cute dress? I can't make up my mind! Thanks!

Re: Dress to leave in

  • I figured I spent a decent amount of money on my wedding gown and I get to wear it once, so I wore it as long as I could. That and I loved it. I saved the cute short dresses for the honeymoon.

This is my thinking!!  I'm not planning on taking my gown off until we get to our hotel room.

  • I wouldn't know where to even put my dress if I did do a costume change! But I agree with PP's I want to spend as much time in my dress as possible.
  • I changed. We were going straight to our hotel 30 minutes away because we left on a 7am flight the next morning for our honeymoon. I really didn't want to make anyone in my family drive out to the hotel to pick up my dress.

We also had our ceremony and reception in the same place, so the girls already had a room that we got dressed in, so all my stuff was in there. My H changed in the room with me and left his tux for his brother to return the next day.

So logistically it made sense for us to change. I didn't want to, but I also didn't want to burden my family the next day.

  • I agree with PPs. I'll be keeping my dress on as long as possible.
  • My ceremony and reception is at the same location so I will be wearing the same dress.  But we are also having an afterparty after the reception and I plan on changing into a fun little cocktail dress to go to the bar afterwards.  I don't want to show up to a bar in my beautiful, glamorous wedding dress!

  • Considering how much money I spent on my dress - I am leaving the Reception in it!

  • My get ready room, ceremony, reception AND wedding night suite are all at the same location, so it would make absolutely no sense for me to change into a separate dress to 'leave' in.

FI's friend is changing because they are leaving their own reception early to catch their flight for their HM.  Not the best idea IMO, but obviously she wouldn't get on a plane in her wedding dress either.

I think it depends on everyone's situation.  If it makes sense for practical reasons, then it's fine.  I think it's kind of stupid to change 'just because' though.  Like PP's have said, I'm paying a lot of money for my wedding dress so I want to make sure I get my money's worth wearing it.

  • at my FSIL's wedding she wore it as long as possible - that is, after the reception, a big group of us went back to the hotel to continue the party!  she refused to take her dress off, and it was useful around 3am when security came and told us to keep it down - who can get mad at a woman in her wedding dress?!?  :)
  • HAHA- Jaytee, that's a cute story. I'm pretty sure I will be the same way. It's going to be hard to get me out of it.
