Groom wants a shiny tux

My lovely fiancé has his heart set on wearing a tux similar to the one he wore to his senior prom...12 years ago. The tux he wore was black and in pictures it seems to have this blue-purple sheen to it- nothing gaudy, but there's no mistaking the shimmer. We're having a hard time finding anything similar to this. Any ideas on a good place to start for a shiny tux? And yes, I have googled many, many variations of the phrase "shiny tux" and "shiny suit". Any recommendations will be appreciated!

  • Your groom needs to realize it's not the 90's any longer. :)

I don't see that photographing all that well...
  • I agree. I don't think it will photograph well. He needs a plan B if he can't find a shiny tux.
  • There is probably a reason you can't find one...
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I have to admit these responses made me laugh :) I think you all have a point and that's pretty much what I figured but if trying to find one will keep him entertained, then I'm all for it.
  • My cousin had shiny tuxes. 2 years ago. I think they got them at Magic Mart, but I'm not sure.

This is the same cousin that took two hours after the guests arrived at the reception to take pictures. There were fans, but no AC, in the afternoon, in August. The people serving would not even give us water for those two hours (we have to wait for the B&G!), so my dad bought sodas for everyone at a gas station.

Maybe it's not the shiny tuxes that were shudder-worthy at that one.

  • My fiance bought a shiny gray suit for our wedding.  I'm not sure I'm totally sold on it but he loves it and that's all that really matters to me.  His suit is bespoke though, not an off the rack find.  You could try to see if you could have one made if that's what he really wants.

    Good luck!

  • While I agree a shiny tux seems like a throwback, if it's what your fiance wants, then he ought to go for it.  I'm guessing he's thinking about something that was called "sharkskin" back in the day.  If cut well, it's not too bad.  http://www.megasuits.com/suits/sharkskin-suits/gcode_SHARKSKIN-SUITS

    It's his wedding, too!
