  • You are under no obligation to buy anything when you go to your appointment. Do not let the sales people pressure you to buy. When you are ready to buy, most salons make you put down a deposit, usually half the cost of your dress so keep that in mind. Also, know how much you will want to spend. There's nothing worse than not having abudget in mind and then trying on, and falling in love with a dress that you just can't afford.

  • Your not obligated to buy anything when you make appointments to try on dresses. I went back to the store maybe 3-4 times before I actually purchased my dress.

I went to browse alone before I purchased my dress, when I was ready to order I went back with my MOH and BM. I think when you order your dress your just doing a deposit, unless your ordering from David's Bridal they require the full amount before they place the order.

  • Ditto the others. You are not obligated (and certainely don't feel like it) to buy anything you try on. My Mom and I went to probably 4 or 5 dress shops before I decided on my dress.

OP: You may want to check out the Columbus board if you are looking for good bridal salons in the area. I am orginally from Columbus, so I also hang out there, too.
  • Bridal shops definitely don't expect you to buy a dress the first time out.  Unless you find something that you are absolutely 110% in love with, you probably won't buy a dress at the first store you visit.  The money thing is up to you; personally, I would wait until I had the money to shop.  If you find something you absolutely love, you're not going to be able to order it unless you have half of the money to put down.  Definitely don't go dress shopping until you have a wedding date set.  Most bridal shops won't help you unless you have a date.  And if you lie about it, you will probably get caught later.

  • Bridal shops are the same as any other store.  Just because you test-drive a car doesn't mean you have to buy it.
